oxygen sensor location

is there a reason why the drivers side oxygen sensor is located on the exhaust manifold and the passenger side is located after the exhaust manifold?

Space constraints on the 89-92 units. The older cars had a much more massive brake master cylinder that required the engine to be offset a bit. That gave very little space on the passenger side manifold for a oxy sensor.

With the smaller master cylinder in the 93+ the engine was shifted back slightly. But they didn't bother to mess with the exhaust manifold since there now would be room.
