This might be a new transmission for the SC's. Tremec is now making a new 5-speed good for 500-600 lbs-ft of torque. it has 8 different mounting points, and 8 different shifter mounts ranging from 14-27 inches away from the bell housing. also comes with two different sets of gearing ratios. Might be a possibility.

Gonna be pricey, but I'd be in on a GP :)

Sounds promising at first glance.

How much do they run based on current model production?

I've never looked into aftermarket transmissions.

The current TKO's go for about $1350 from online retailers. The current line is getting replaced by the 500 and 600 series, too. Also figure on costs for new driveshaft and perhaps clutch setup.

I was just thinking that having multiple shifter locations might help eliminate the shifter problems that current T-5 swaps have.

I called them about this new tranny about 2-3 weeks ago. The tech guys told me that they didn't have any info specific about it going into a bird, but he had an artical about some guy having the 3550 (I think that is the model #) tranny in a bird. He also said that they were looking into it in the future.

One last thing, he talked about how surprised he was about how much of a fallowing the tbird has.

I have their phone # at home so I will post it when I get home tonight.

Oh and also some of the stuff I know we would need off hand would be a mustang clutch + flywheel.

One thing that cunfuses me is how would we run the clutch? Convert to a cable clutch or stay hydrolic?

The fellow you mention that had a 3550 in his car converted to a cable setup. He has a plate machined for the cable to runthrough in his firewall.

Would we be about to retain the hydrolic clutch setup?

I believe you can keep the hydraulic system. I think you need to buy an externaly mountable slave cylinder or something like that.

Just out of curiousity, anyone know the gear ratios of our 5 spds? This tremec would certainly allow 3.55s or 3.73s alot easier!
And theres always the possibility of buying the shifter extension box from MN12 Performance. Aweful pricey, though.

June issue of 5.0 & SF has a article about the new TTC-Tremec sticks, named TKO-500 and TKO-600, for the 500 and 600 lbs of torque.

Per the article the 500 has a 10 spline input shaft and these are the only gear ratios

1st 3.27
2nd 1.97
3rd 1.34
4th 1.00
5th 0.68

The TKO-600 has a 26 spline input shaft and here are its gear options.

1st 2.87
2nd 1.89
3rd 1.28
4th 1.00
5th 0.82 or 0.64

As stated before they have different shifter mounting points and both will be set up for GM or Ford tranny mounting points on each case. Looks like a nice aftermarket tranny.

Yes and no, well at to me, the first post made is sound as if you can get either the TKO-500 or 600 with either of those gear ratio's that you posted, but the mag article is showing only 1 set of 1st - 5th gear ratio for the 500 and just a 5th difference option in the 600 model which is the way I posted it.

Plus I don't think anyone has said about the input shaft spline count.

One last thing that I forgot to mention in my first post; when I talked to the tech guy he also stated that they were going to do away with the 10 spline input shaft as it seem to small for all the torque and that the 26 spline input shaft would be standard on all models.

The TKO-500 will have the 10-spline and the TKO-600 will hae the 26-spline.

Yes, but only at first. They are going to stop putting the 10 spline in the TKO 500 and it will be replaced with the 26 spline input shaft.

Theres an awefully big difference between those two answers. Any confirmation anyone?

JJanney

The magazine does not mention any specific changes coming the future, and I do not see any reason why they would drop the cheaper option. But he did say he talked to a rep, so I guess it could happen.

quick35th

That is what the rep told me. That the TKO 500 comes with the 10 spline input shaft now, but latter on it will be switched to the 26 spline input shaft. The phone # to get a hold of them is (704) 398-2675.
