Hey, I'm that guy that can not leave well enough alone. You see I tend to make broken things work by using other broken things to fix them (occasionally it actually works). My bossman says I am the ultimate bench racer, more plans than substance most of the time. The world of hurt I have gotten myself into this time is a European spec 1976 BMW 630cs

that is relatively clean for a 28 year old car. The styling of the car is timeless but the motivation has something lacking. You see 1976 was the first year of "the Shark" and they did not import them that year. The official launch of the 6 in North America was for the 1977 model year. When this car was imported in late 1979 it could not pass emissions because there was not a NA spec version of the drivetrain in that chassis, to remedy this the owners bought a brand new Ford Fairmont 3.3L stick off the lot and transferred the ENTIRE drivetrain as well as HVAC system into the car! Crikey, that guy must have loved this car. After a few more owners I purchased this gem from a friend in Maryland for the sum of $200.00. It does not run and is perfect for an idiot like me.

In preparation for the inevitable I started looking at engine/tranny combos that suited my needs. I had wild ideas at first: I looked at a 1998 Firebird drivetrain with a 6 speed, too spendy. I considered a twin turbo 289 with a T5, not very streetable... but neat! Then I found the deal of the week. You see I work in a salvage yard and occasionally I get opportunities to buy Police Impound Vehicles :D (Yes, I suck, get used to it!) I purchased a running hi-miler 1990 SC with reciepts in the glove for a recent (within 18 mos) complete engine and supercharger replacement from a Ford dealer! The maroon spent $5,000 getting this car running again only to lose it driving under the influence! My gain.

The Plan: Being the sacreligious twit that I am, I will strip the SC instead of driving it. I have always wanted a shark now it will be kinda like a Great White instead of a nurse shark  . After getting the body ironed back out I plan on installing the 3.8L supercharged mill you all know and love, mix in a set of 1998 Mustang exhaust manifolds, a T5 from the same Mustang, a cam from the 1989 manual car (it's good to have parts to trade I tell ya!) The rest of the HVAC and accessories, as well as the speedo and dash control for the HVAC, seats front and rear. Front brakes are coming from a 1997 Corvette rotors, pads and calipers on custom brackets. Rear brakes are being sourced from a Camaro with, again, custom brackets. The car will be an Open Track car as well as a daily driver, the improved brakes will help by the hand full. Other additions to keep it alive include a 255 LPH in tank fuel pump, aluminum fuel lines, Aeromotive fuel filter, Russel Ford fuel line adapters, and a power steering cooler sourced from a F350 Super Duty. Weight will be reduced as much as possible but they are similar sized and similar weights from the factory so I don't expect to lose too much. The 3.64 locker rear end will help. In the end I will have fared the wheel arches and done some mor work to get it to look kind of like this:

Any other suggestions?

Nice photochop, and rim choice! You may want to search the tech forums for information on the T-5 with SC powerplant, if memory serves me correctly, it may not be worth all of the troubles, but I am not sure. Definitely keep us updated, as I for one would love to see the outcome of your project.

Oh yeah, Welcome to the Board! :D

The reason for the T5 was two fold. One: I already had it. Two: The car was retrofitted to work with the cable controls when they converted it in 1979. My plan is to "Keep it simple"

P.S. This car will be built for a grand total of LESS than $2000.00. We build cars for the Grassroots Motorsports $200x Challenges and have competed two of the last three years. Our little club eVilallianceracing.com had twelve cars at the races this year and our members took home FTD, Highest Fnishing Classic Car and other awards as well.

The t5 may not hold up to the torque the 3.8 is capable of producing.
