i have rebuilt 1989 thunderbird sc engine, having problem setting camshaft
sensor. can not find syncronizer positioner tool#T89P-12200-A. the engine
act like it is firing before top dead center.

I did mine by eye, you only have to be within 5 degrees. If you do a search under cam sensor alignment you should come across the same article w/pictures. Hardest part was getting the tamperproof T-45 off. Good luck. :D

If you suspect its the sensor, unplug it. Then start the engine. It will take a few tries, but it will eventually run. Just be sure to turn the key all the way off between tries.

And on the tool, you can just eyeball it, or use a straight edge (e.g. a popsicle stick) to line up the shutter. You can do better than 5 degrees with eyesight alone ;)

Also, from what I understand ,the cam sensor is not used for spark timing, it is used only for timing of the fuel injectors, so I'm pretty sure that your spark is happening at the right time but your fuel delivery is happening at the wrong time. Had the same problem on mine after a total rebuild, would almost run, not quite though.
