I have noticed on the TCCOA there is a naturally aspirated LX 4.6 with modifications good for about 255rwhp and 305 rwtq with a high 12 second 1/4mi time. His car weighs 3760 lbs, identical to my SC.

It seemed to me that these cars required significantly more power to run times this quick?

Sounds fishy to me!

It may be fishy, but it also says alot for someone who is not afraid to make the modifications necessary to go fast. People here seem to be afraid of real drag tires and high stall converters. Also remember that those cars have electronically controlled transmissions (yes our 94-95's do also) which can be a real big advantage.

When I was making 270 hp and around 380 torque according to the dyno, I ran a 13.6. But that was also with a messed up stock transmission and a few other problems. When you start adding up all those little (and big) problems, it's costing you a tenth here, a tenth there, etc. I bet some people get all those things fixed, plus they optimize everything else on the car for the track, and they will run faster/quicker with supposedly less power. But still 255hp/305tq doesn't really seem like enough for 12's.

johnny's car is actually setup for drag racing, and he runs consistant times with it. You have to really conentrate on all the small details to get that type of time out of a car with that power level.

With what Brian and Dave said..

When I went to the MM&FF SC shootout I have never seen so many SC's at one time at a track....Two things I noticed right off the bat were...LAck of a good tire for traction..And lack of a properly functioning posi unit..Everyone wants the power..The huge HP numbers without wondering how to put it to the ground..Then everyone is dissapointed in their times

ALmost all the SC's were lacking in the working posi department so even with tires they wernt going anywhere..Just my 2 cents

My 94 w/4R70W went 13.9x with 245rwhp, street radials, and a stock torque converter. This car also weighs about 4100 lbs with me in it.

I think if you maximize/lighten up a T-Bird set up for the 1/4 12's are possible at that power level.

i agree, its not always hp levels, but mostly suspension set-ups. From what i see.....a car with about 300rwhp can run a 12.99 or slightly higher. However you need to utilize traction. Stock auto trannys wont be good for racing. A higher stall converter needs to be used and def. get some sort of slicks or drag radials like save stated. I have just got a set of et streets which should be plently sticky enough :D

That guys times seems a little fishy. What is his trap speed? If he is running a 12.9.....his trap should be around 105-107mph. Heck last year i was running 14.1 @ 102. The mph was good for around 13.0-13.3, but you just cant hook on street tires. I was running around 275hp/380 ft/lb. This year i'll be running about 280-300hp and 425-430 ftlb!!!. I cant wait to see what this thing will pull.

Johnny's car traps at 103. He also doesn't state what dyno the numbers were from. If it was a mustang dyno then he probably has ~280 or so rwhp on a dyno jet. Who cares about power numbers? If you want to find out how much power it is making on a particular run, then you can use the trap speed and weight to get an approximation. The real important thing on the track is the track time. There is also another guy on TCCOA (1MTNCAT) that ran a 13.89 @ 95.57 with just bolt-ons on a '96 cougar. He hasn't even dynoed his car. He does road tuning. The '96-'97 cars are a little bit lighter than the SC's also. Johnny's car was weighed with him in the car. If you want good times, launch that thing on some good tires and don't be scared of it. With the torque that the SCs have you should get out of the hole great with some work.

Hey 96sport, what are these "JL's chassis braces" about? You have them in your sig.

Those are actually Johnny Langton's (guy with the 12.9 run) subframe connectors, front K-member braces, and rear shock tower brace.

Here you go (http://members.tccoa.com/jl1997bird/Chassis/).

Damon what did you ever do with that poor 94 white SC you had? It was so sad to see what they did to that poor car. It makes me ill to look at the pictures :(
