Let me try a crack at this...
I'm assuming that you're trying to remove the entire cluster and check the connections on the fuel gauge. To remove the cluster you must remove the two electric plugs at either side and then remove the boost meters tube which is top dead center basically. There have been other posts about removing the gauge cluster. It can be quite tricky the first time.
