Seat belt issue

I've just started noticing my seatbelt on the drivers side isn't running smooth anymore. It starts when opening, moves about half way up to the front then starts a jerky motion back and forth like it's getting a mixed open or closed signal, then finally gets to the front. It does work better on the way back, but does sometimes do the same on the way back.
Is this a problem with the track, lube, or electircal? Any suggestions on maintanance or is the part already shot and need replaced?

you should take off the interior panels and inspect the track. it is just a nylon track and it goes around a metal gear. sometimes the nylon will strip and cause it to skip. hey that rhymed. :D also inspect the motor and its connections. the motor is located behind the door on the bottom.

What triggers the belts? Is it the dome lamp switch in the door?

Seat belt

It is triggered by a switch in the door latch. Before tearing all the interior out, check this switch. If you latch assy is worn, it plays havoc with the switch and does exactly what yours is doing. You can see this switch if you roll your window down and look inside the window opening for a wire going to your latch assy. To test, remove the door panel, unplug the single wire connector near the latch assy. Ground this wire and the seatbelt should go forward smothly. If it doesnt, then its most likely the track. to replace the switch, remove a phillips retaining screw and twist the switch 1/4 turn. You may have to replace you latch assy also.
