Did anybody see "Trucks!" on Sunday afternoon? They had a Chevy Silverado with a blower on it. They said it was the "Joe Gibbs Limited Edition" or something like that. Looked pretty impressive. They also had the Lightning and SRT-10.
I don't know if it was a rerun or not, but I hadn't seen the "Joe Gibbs" truck before. Did anyone else see it?

I did not see that one but I think it was also on truck Sunday they put a bolt on Supercharger onto a F150 Supercrew FX4. They said it would add 65% HP. I was drooling over that.

yeah, Car and Driver tested the Gibbs truck as well. 4.8 liter with a magnacharger on it, making 390HP and 425 lbs-ft. Power is routed through a 5-speed or an auto. So it looks like it is GM this time making more HP with less cubes. The lighting needs 5.4 supercharged liters to make come close to that power. It is just a shame that Chevy didn't have the marbles to make this truck and Gibbs did. It is a fast truck.

It looked like the Joe Gibbs truck sat lower than the Lightningor the SRT-10, maybe the handling might be better. That Stacy David sure has a way cool job, no doubt.

I forget the magazine article I read at work that had the Joe Gibbs truck in it. It was nice looking no doubt, but it was slower than ****. I think it was posted that it ran a 15.70 I can get out and run faster than that. My friend has an 03 Silverado SS. It has 345 hp 6.0L stock and awd. He put a procharger centrifugal blower on it and a nx express 150 hp wet kit on it. Stock it ran like a high 14. With the nitrous mid 13's. With the blower high 13's like 13.80. Blower and the spray it went 12.60. You should see this truck launch, its the coolest thing I've seen. It spins all 4 tires a few feet and then just squats and its gone. When the tires spin the truck jumps. I seriously thought he was neutral dropping the trans to get it to launch like that but he just stomps it to the floor board.
The Lightning still posts better numbers with 385 hp than I have seen out of that 500 hp SRT-10. The Ram looks cooler though.

umm. Scott the Joe Gibbs truck is not slow at all. It is lighter than the SS, has 390HP and 425 lbs-ft.
5.9-sec. zero-to-sixty time, and a 13.8 1/4 mile at 99.43 mph. Not bad for a 4.8 liter. Also has a tuned suspension and bear brake kits on all 4 wheels. Auto or manual.
60-0 in 125 feet.

yeah i saw that trucks, and i saw the one where they put the supercharger on the f-150, made me drool also... I visited the Joe Gibbs performace website, and noticed that there's a silverado, tahoe, and soon to come H2 project. I'd like to see the H2's numbers. and on the looks of the SRT-10 vs. the lightning..i've always liked both, but the dodge(with that hood scoop) looks bad a$$...

Hate to burst any bubbles, but Trudck Trend did an actual comparison and the SRT-10 beat the Lightning in every test but braking with a 2 foot difference between them, most important was the SRT pulled like 7 mph higher in the quarter with 22 inch rims and an extra 300 pounds. SRT-10 is king.... for now. SSR gets the LS2 next year with a 6 speed with a RC silverado SS slated to get it too.

On a similar note, anyone seen the F-150 "Grabber" truck on any "Trucks" reruns? It's a late model F-150 w/ a turbocharged 4.6 liter SOHC engine. It was pretty badass. I believe it was called the Grabber because of the "Grabber" blue paint used on it like on some older Stang'.

I think it does, not saying the lightning is ugly cuz its a damn fine truck. I personally like the 99's with the more aggressive wheels and the non ricer tail lights. Just add gears to them to make them close with the newer lightning.

I will try to find and scan the article about the Joe Gibbs truck that was in either Truckin' or Sport Truck last month or so. Seriously it was so slow it was embarassing.

Scott, I personally like the '03/'04 wheels best, and I have a set of red taillights on order.
As far as comparing the SRT10 to the Lightning. Dodge is late to the party, and barely brought enough equiptment. I remember the Magazines BEGGING for Dodge to put the Viper spec V10 and 6 speed into the lightest Ram available way back when the 1st gen Lightning was fighting with the 454SS. Ten years later they finally got around to doing it, and it costs damn near twice what I paid for the L.
On the Joe Gibbs truck, I am a bit confused. The performance numbers posted above are for the optional supercharged version, but they never say which engine......Is it the 4.8L manual trans version, or the 5.3L Automatic version.

I'd take the SRT-10 over the Lightening any day. It looks so much better, has a way better interrior...its also faster stock.

Scott seriously, they tested something different or a different version of it cause they ran this one at the strip, and numerous other people have had it with similar numbers. You are the first I have ever heard say that it is slow.
Think about it for a minute. It has more HP and more Tq than the SS and More TQ than the Lightning and it weighs less than the SS. So you tell me how you think it is going to be slower. Now the SS runs 15 second 1/4 miles stock, but not the Gibbs.

The Gibbs truck makes 425Ft-Lbs, the Lightning makes 450. Perhaps the numbers Scott saw were for the Gibbs without the optional supercharger. But even with the Supercharger, the times I have seen aren't quite as good as a Lightnings.
For the extra $20k the SRT isn't much faster than the L, if at all. I know comparing modified to stock isn't quite right, but for 10% of the price difference into mods the L will walk away.

i seen a lightning spank, and i mean spank an SRT-10 at the track. the funny thing was the guy sold a lightning to buy the dodge. i never saw the dodge at the track after that. they are a tough looking truck though.
