I was wondering, how good are the stock internals on these cars? Im thinking about stepping up from a turbocoupe and would like to know some basics.
Also, with the normal bolt ons of say headers, exhaust (catless), pulley, maybe some intercooler work what kind of power potential is there? Of course all cars will make a different number and it depends on the tuner but a ballpark guesstimate would be nice.
TIA

As a previous owner of an 84 Turbo Coupe, I can tell you that the motors in the Supercoupe tend to be "heartier" than the oil bleeding 2.3l turbo. I remember lots of problems w/ clogged cats, glowing red exhaust manifolds & horrible oil burning problems as my turbo coupe aged!
The supercoupe is a fun car to drive (even barebones stock!). You'll find that it costs quite a bit more to make power on the super coupe than on a typical 302 motor. Owning & maintaining a super coupe is a labor of love. But a properlyl cared for car should yield many years of unspoiled fun.
As far as mods go...replacing the exhaust from manifolds back is critical for proper flow (many ideas for this on this board). Second you might consider a 5% or 10% pulley on the supercharger. This is a good starting point. Beyond that get ready to open up your wallet on trick parts!
I've never had any regrets turning loose my Turbo Coupe for a Super Coupe!
Good Luck!

He really siad it all, by the time you get that stuff done, you will have seen enough to know where your next 2000 bucks will be going, you might also check out a larger free breathing cold air intake.
