How close would the SC run to Beating the Impala SS....a friend has got one, he wants to run 'em. I don't think i really wanna race him, but then again, he's a pretty cool friend. I'd rather get spanked by him then some oddball on the road somewhere.

I met one at the track years ago and raced him with my 1991 stock AOD. I won, with a 15.4 vs his 15.7 :D
But that was the best run ever for my stock '91 SC. :(

My friends Impalla runs 14.6 at the track. That is mostly stock. It is really close between our cars, but I think he would take me.

With a Curb weight of 4061lbs they are a heavy beast. Stock they have 260hp and 330ft-lbs of torque. (crankshaft) So they are pretty close to the SC.
A 5 speed could probably take it if driven well. An auto will depend on the user.
All will depend on what has been done to the SS. They have the LT1 block and respond to mods quite well. Stock is a very restrictive intake track that when replaced gains some ponies right there.
Don't race for titles. Just do it for fun. At a track no doubt.

I sure thought the Impala SS's were more like 4300-4400 lbs. Even so, I guess they are good for what they are. A lot of the "mostly stock" SS's I've seen were still in the 15's. Saw a supercharged one that ran mid 13's.
All I know is it must be nice to have all the aftermarket. I think it would be pretty slammin to build a 383 with nitrous. You could have it still remain very stock looking under the hood and run 13's on motor, 12's on juice. Shouldn't be all that hard on the motor either.

I've only had a couple stoplight contests in the last few years, but a (looked and sounded) stock Impala SS was one of them, driven by an older gentleman. It was in a 50 mph zone and we took it to about 60 when he shut down first. I had about 3/4 car on him by then. I only have a Magnaflow res, the Lentech and 3:55's and CAI on my car, and I've always felt those few mods more or less only compensate for my high mileage (~220k) and heavy Cobra R wheels, and aren't giving me too much more than what a lower mileage stock SC would give. Just guessing though on that, but I remember my car from years ago when it was bone stock and it's not much quicker now. It's likely the heavy wheels and tires are the reason -otherwise it would probably feel quicker now than it did stock. :)

Stock for Stock, it would come down to the driver. Luck has always been on my side against them. Never taken a loss to an impala. I'm lookin to destroy a merauder next.

You know there are new(04) Impala SS's don't ya'? They have the 3800 Series II supercharged V6 in them(also found in 97-03 GTP's, etc...). The V6 Imp's should run the 1/4 in about mid-high 14's in stock form w/ a decent driver(launching is the main issue here, I've seen people that can't launch them run mid 15's :p ).

I was beginning to wonder if anyone was going to pop in about the newer SC'd Impala's. I've seen a couple. They are limited production. I won't dispute the quote above as far as the nr's go. However, from what I've read on their specs as far as the engine specs, they sound virtually identical to ours. Their hp rating is 240 which is real close to the 238 the 94-95 SC's were rated. Same goes for the newer SS version of the Monte Carlo.
Was wondering if anyone has had any street or strip action against them?

94-95 SC = 230HP/330ft-lbs.
And I for one kind of dig the 3800SC. They got lots of aftermarket and hold their own very well. A friend in town has a 13 second GTP and it's a pretty cool ride.

You can check over @ clubgp.com if you want to see some of the times that the 04+ Impala SS' run. They're basically the same weight as a Grand Prix w/ the same motor(maybe a tad lighter)..some GTP's have hit very low 14's stock all the way up to low 15's, it really depends on the driver most of the time. The new Imp's and Carlo's got the left over Series II engines, they will likely get the new 260 hp series III version w/ newer style M90 and electronic throttle control(supposedly no throttle lag) that 04 GTP's are using for the next production year. The 04 GTP's usually run a tad slower then the 97-03 models(although, some have ran about the same in stock trim), I believe due to a difference in weight and the PCM's the cars come with hold them back a great deal(there will be aftermarket ones available soon).

A 13 second GTP is an easy feat for most, good tires, a pulley and an intake usually gets the average GTP into the very high 13's w/ a good launch. Check out the GTP 1/4 mile list sometime, we've got two cars in the 10's now(the fastest is running a turbo instead of an M90, and the other 10sec car is running a centrifugal SC..third fastest is no nitrous and still M90 powered w/ an 11.062) and tons of other fast ones.

I beat an SS pretty bad with my 5 speed...one of the first races I had after by passing my cats. Up till then I had the PRO-M and K&N. So it doesn't take much.
Any SC with a good exhaust and some minor intake mods will take an SS with no problem.
