ive got a tire q

my friend is buying wheels and hes got his balls on the wall tryin to find the right size tires...hes getting 18x7 inch wheels with 42mm offset (will that offset work on 89 spindles) he doesnt know what size tires to get.. would 245/45 18s work ok or will they be too tall? would 245/40 be better, he wants to put the widest tire possible on them

If he wants the widest tire possible, he shouldn't be getting 7" wheels.

http://www.sccoa.com/faq/tirecalc.php for comparing diameters of various tire sizes. 245-45-18 will be almost identical to stock 225-60-16 diameter. The widest I'd suggest on those wheels would be 235 width.
