on the passenger side fenderwell in the engine bay. It is behind the airbox. It is grey and about the size of your thumb. Yeah, it backs off timing about 4*. Dealerships usually pull it if customers complain about knocking, pinging, etc....

You didn't say what year your car is. On the 94-95 SC's the octane plug is forward of the shock tower near the diagnostic port.
