Can someone please help by telling how to remove the steering column ?

It's the easiest thing in the world, should take 10 minutes... i'll consult the manual and get right back to you.

Thanks. I looked in the chilton manual but didnt really see any thing about how to remove it. Im getting lots of play in my steering wheel and suspect a bearing or something in the column.

Remove lower LH finish panel retaining bolts and panel, Remove lower LH reinforcement panel bolts and panel, Remove steering column upper and lower shroud retaining screws and shroud, disconnect all wires, Remove steering column shaft pinch bolt ,Remove steering column retaining nuts, Remove starter interlock switch retaining screw and remove switch, remove steering column :D

the only one... 1990 ford shop manual, its got pics too , if i could get my scanner to work, i'll send them to you

You can always get the shop manual on CD, with pics and stuff, very nice. I have one for the 92, but all the cars are the same. I'll be happy to send you, I sell copies, for like $5. Bought mine off ebay for $25 and it was burned too :( oh well... Just trying to help.

Oh and from my manual on my computer and the pic too:

Column, Steering

All steering column components are assembled with self-locking fasteners. They are used to prevent loosening due to vibrations associated with normal operation of the vehicle. If replacement becomes necessary, use fasteners of the same part number.


1. Disconnect battery ground cable.

2. Remove lower LH finish panel retaining bolts.

3. Carefully pull lower LH finish panel to disengage retaining clips.

4. Remove lower LH reinforcement panel retaining bolts and remove reinforcement panel.

5. Remove steering column upper and lower shroud retaining screws and remove shroud.

6. Disconnect ignition key courtesy lamp wire connector.

7. Disconnect cruise control wire connector.

8. Disconnect ignition switch wire connector.

9. Disconnect multi-function switch connector.

10. Disconnect steering shock absorber sensor wire connector.

11. Remove steering universal shaft pinch bolt.

12. Remove steering column retaining nuts.

13. Disconnect hazard warning wire connector.

14. Remove brake shift interlock switch retaining screw and remove switch.

15. Remove steering column from vehicle.

1. Position steering column and loosely install one retaining nut.

2. Install brake shift interlock switch and tighten screw to 1.1-1.5 N-m (8.7-13.3 Lb-In).

3. Connect hazard warning wire connector.

4. Install steering column upper shroud.

5. Align steering column universal.

6. Install steering column retaining nuts.

7. Install universal pinch bolt and tighten to 41-57 N-m (30-42 lb-ft).

8. Connect steering shock absorber sensor wire connectors.

9. Connect multi-function switch wiring connector.

10. Connect ignition switch wiring connector.

11. Connect cruise control wire connector.

12. Connect ignition key courtesy lamp wire connector.

13. Position steering column harness wiring and secure in place.

14. Install lower steering column shroud and retaining screws.

15. Position lower LH reinforcement panel and install retaining bolts.

16. Position lower LH finish panel and install retaining bolts.

17. Connect battery ground cable.

18. Check operation.
