How many other people out there also have a turbo 2.3 Ford car? I guess a turbo Probe would count too, but I don't know their engine size. Tbirds, Cougars, SVOs, Merkurs, or turbo GTs(Mustangs).I don't know if there are any other stock turbo fords.

Mine is a 1988 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe. Owned 7 years. Fun.

Although I don't own them anymore I have owned the following:

1986 Cougar XR7 2.3 Turbo Non-intercooled auto. Totalled it one night when I was sober taking some drunk friends home. Good samaratian. . . bad luck

1987 Thunderbird TC Auto with 3 inch cat delete downpipe. This car could beat 5.0 Mustangs with the boost and minimal backpressure it had. Totalled in a head on collision. I ended up with 4 stiches from hitting my head on the rear view mirror.

1988 Thunderbird TC 5 Speed stock. Bought for $1300 in 1996 and sold for $1000 in 2001. Not Bad with 174000 miles.

I now have:

1995 Black LX I bought new on my 25th birthday for $18900.

1995 Vermillion SC auto I bought 4 mths ago for $2000. I've had the tranny rebuilt and changed plugs, plug wires, camshaft sensor, radiator and fluid, synthetic oil and replaced all the black dash pieces from where the previous owner had painted them with regular crimson paint. So far I have about $4200 in it.

My first car was an 88 black TC, I am still kicking myself for not turning up the boost. I didn't know anything about cars then.

This is one rare car!!!!! Only 412 ever produced and I have one. 5-speed manual and red with a black convertible top. Great little car that I hope to bring to Carlisle soon.

Love my SC's to death, still have a place in my heart for my little 4 banger turbo.

I have a 85 TC....its completely stock tho and a real dog compared to the SC. Its really just to get me around till i get the transmission issues with the SC solved. I may keep it afterwards but its being a real pain in the *** right now...has 215k tho so i shouldnt expect any less ;)

We had an '85 TC 5-speed, I actually learned how to drive stick on that car. I remember reading on one of the boards that it isn't too difficult to get them (I'm assuming if you add an intercooler) up to 260hp... that wouldn't be too shabby, although still lacking in torque. I think the probe actually used a 2.2 l turbo

actually mines a 5speed too...learned how to drive a manual on it as well...pretty sad...didnt learn to drive a manual till i was 20 :p

well with the addition of the intercooler i believe your lookin at almost a 40 or so horse gain.

the probe is also FWD so its a different motor and i believe its a lot of mazda parts to.

yeah....i owned an 88TC until it was totaled, then i just got this XR7 a few weeks ago. i still consider myself a turboford guy. i kind of group all of the 83-95 thunderbirds and cougars in one big lump since they are basically designed with many of the same principles and qualities in mind. They are meant to be luxury cars with some serious getup and go to them. while they have their differences i seem alot of similarities among them. I love all of them and i don't think i'll be happy without at least one of them ever again.

who said they don't have tourque? granted they don't have 300+ from the factory but clearing up some of the bottle necks will yeild gobs of tourqe. my 2.3 makes way more tourque than my XR and I have very little done to it. 300+ft. lbs of tourque can be achieve with a good intercooler, 3" dp and exhaust, and more boost than a supercharger could think about.(roots style at least)20-25 psi on a stock .63/60t3 isn't uncommen.
Oh and I'm a turboford fanatic too. ;)

My first car was an '83 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe, 5 speed, charcoal grey. In my o***ion the best looking fox body tbird, it had the smoothest body lines, front end was smooth even down to the tailligths were smooth. I bought it for $1200 with new paint and overall extremely good condition for the age of the car, this was in '94. I knew it had potential from get go. My cuz had a dodge daytona with mods and it hauled-azz. Any how the tbird couldn't keep up with it so i turned the boost up, WOW best $35 mod ever!!(manual boost controller).

Needless to say the 150k on the clock and 18lbs of boost didn't agree long and the headgasket blew. We it was decieded it was time to rebuild the motor after the third headgasket failure. Basically just new bearings in the lower end, hone job, new rings, and aftermarket cam. During disassembly I pulled the turbo and noticed the bearings were going out, I contacted magestic turbo in houston, tx and they suggested an hybrid t3/t4 turbo upgrade for around $150 more than the stock rebuild. (Good for like 500hp) This made a BIG time difference, the car sounded bad-azz when the big turbo spooled up. I had added a stock late model svo intercooler, 42lbs injectors, 3" exhust and cranked the boost. In third, it would see like 26+ pounds of boost.

The best part was like 8 of my close friends had 5.0 mustangs that were "fast!!" and I could run smoke'em with a 4 banger, the smack was flying! I never took it to the track, but street racing I was out running 12 second mustangs. I think it was an all day low 12 second car no joke.

Then i got a good job and could afford to buy my '92 super coupe $6,995, within a week I had the 18" wheels on it and the next week the springs, and the mods started on it. It looks exactly the same today as it did back it '99 same wheels and all, well except minus the motor for the monent. I kept both birds for about a year and finally sold the TC for $2200, still kicking myself Ihave never seen another 83 tc.

I have an 87 5sp turbo coupe besides the 93 sc. The tc is my everyday driver. The turbo coupe's get great gas mileage and have decent power. One day when the sc is done(if ever) I want to soup up the tc.

That's a sweet pic. I have half the picture with my 94SC, but been wanting a black 88TC for quite a while, but it'll have to wait a while longer unfortunately.
