the car I just bought has a rod hole in the oil pan, and wanted to do a cheap short block. can this be done with an 89 N/A 3.8 short block?

I would bet not. The compression in to high among other things. There is either a post or a faq page that lists all the differences between the N/A 3.8 and the SC 3.8

Hope this helps.

Do a search, there are hundreds of threads on the topic. You can't do it, you will need an SC shortblock.
