whats this?

just got this thing, and i need to drive ASAP .... not sure what this is, but i need to fix it ... oh, and any short cuts for changing the T-Stat?

Not sure, but it looks a whole lot like the windshield washer pump which would normally be located on the wheel well just in front of the shock tower.

As for changing the thermostat, the only real trick is be sure its centered and held on with some tacky sealant before you try to install it. Evidently its real easy to get it misaligned and have a leak. And the gasket needs to be in good shape. Other note is when you unplug the temp guage sender, be careful with it and clean the rust and corrosion off to be sure it seats well.
