mozilla is the answer. Only use Internet Explorer if YOU HAVE TO....I can't get into some things libraries or work data bases unless IE....but have been living with Mozilla for the past 3 weeks and NO POP UPS!!!
There are people in Russia and all over the world creating all sorts of crap to attack IE....and they are succeeding. My wife at work said their government system was attacked really bad about a few weeks ago with these pop up problems, and they had to have some contractor come in a fix it. Since IE is intimate with the windows OS....the pros can come up with these non-virus but very insidious computer problems. Mozilla doesn't work that way and is detached from the OS at least to the extent that hidden files in the OS don't bother it.
I have the VX2 problem too with IE...a trojan horse that completely slowed down my computer at home until it didn't work. Once that gets into your computer then it continuously load in crap without you knowing it. Had to do VX2 clean ups and Adaware every single time with IE and still problems persisted.
If you have the problem with Pop ups....go Mozilla.

I use Opera, and had the same problems with the Pop-ups...I used Ad-Aware 6.0 (http://www.lavasoft.de/support/download/), Spybot: Search and Destroy 1.3 (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html) , and Registry Mechanic 3.0 (http://www.winguides.com/software/download.php?id=42&guide=regmech) (you can get a free copy on just about any file sharing program :D, i did!) Its like 20 bucks to register the mechanic program...those 3 programs got rid of everything bad on my computer and I dont have pop-ups anymore.
OH, and read the instructions on all those programs, they are not responsible for any damage, nor am I, to your computer you do because you didnt read the instructions.

The only way pain in the *** spyware will go away is if you go to Add/Remove Programs, then you have to find the registry keys that are associated with the program and remove them. Spybot i think is the best spyware removal but none of them do the whole job, but definatly don't mess with your registry if you don't know what your doing.

I'll second Mozilla's Firefox. I also use Adaware 6.0 for the sneaky ones. Those 2 together take care of me.
If you just can't not use IE, at least install a pop-up blocking toolbar (such as yahoo! or google's), that'll help. Though they're not near as good as a straight Firefox browser for blocking.

There are all sorts of pop up blockers. I use Avant Browser that sits on top of IE and gives me pop-up blocking and a tabbed interface. I liked the tabbed interface from Mozilla but couldn't stand the lack of speed and incompatibilities.
IE is faster due to it's leverage of hooks in the operating system that browsers targeting different operating systems can't match.
The blockers from MSN, google, and yahoo work pretty well. Many of the tools also update your HOSTS file on the computer to point known advertiser web sites into a black hole. That works really quite well.

where do you get it?
And did you ever get VX2?....the trojan horse?
I got that over and over and it affects IE....had to run the VX2 finder to get rid of it, almost every day.
Now I have VX2 on my machine...but it doesn't affect Mozilla....
so I still don't see the advantage of working through IE when there are 1000s of topic programmers around the world trying to bring Microsoft down....which I don't blame them for.....

I use the lightweight version of Mozilla, Firefox. I recommend this unless you want the decent html editor that comes with mozilla.

go to google.com and type in google tool bar, and download it, very simple.
i tried that mozilla, its ok but not great.
oh i got this tip for XP PROFESSIONAL users and possibly HOME EDITION users,
go to CONTROL PANEL> ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS> SERVICES> and look for MESSENGER> double click to open> and look for START UP TYPE and select DISABLE, also were it says SERVICE STATUS select STOP. this will turn off a messenger service in XP that has been exploited by spammers and it closes a back door.
i have never ever in my life had a virus before, i run P2P programs but never ever have i had a virus. Just keep WINDOWS upto date by running windows update.
I believe the people who are the most paranoid about viruses and trojans are the ones who get them. Not me, i dont care for them. I dont run any virus program cause it craps up the computer nor do i have my security settings on HIGH, i have them on LOW. Firewalls are a pain in the ***. I hate them.
Also you should download AD-AWARE to remove any spy ware that might have installed on your computer. Some spyware automatically open pop up windows when u open Internet Explorer.
Need more tips? PM Me.

I just installed spykiller Saturday, not because of the popups, but the spyware was killing me. Making it hard to do anything on the computer. Everytime a certain process would run, it would screw up what I was doing.
The spykiller took care of the spyware and the popups too. :D
www.spykiller.com the scan is free, but to download and install the program was $39.95, but I'm very happy with the results so far. :D
