Does spark plug gap affect MPG?

For starters, I live in a small town and do alot of start/stop driving in 25, 30 and 40 MPH areas. I don't expect in town driving to be good. However I just put in Magnecore wires and new plugs. My car is slightly moded with plans of doing more bolt on stuff in the near future.

I read an article on here that said for lightly modded cars, a gap of .46 - .48 would be good. Since making the replacements, it seems to be gulping gas a little worse than before.

Just wondering if I should adjust the gap or not?

Thanks, Oh, mods below.
