Are there only specific years or was it models that had the VMM. I have a 93 and it doesn't have it. Personally I would think that this would be just another @$%# thing to have to maintain or replace. Whats the differance with out it. Thanks

The VMM was an option on all years and models. All it did was tell you if your oil/fuel/wwasher/coolant is low and if you need to change your oil. If you can handle monitoring those things yourself, there is no purpose for it. ;)

My daughters 91 had all the connections for the vmm under the hood but did not have the vmm in the dash. The connection was there, so I put one in the dash and it works just fine. Ford omission or what? It's hard to believe that the previous owner replaced it with that dash blank so go figure.

Actually, that is probably exactly what happened. A lot of times the clips break and then the thing keeps falling out of the dash and is very annoying. Since they are expensive, a lot of people just put the blank in instead.
