Well my buddy Mark (the one building the Shelby Cobra) and I decided to ride our bikes up to Gingerman (the local road course that Mansier raced at last weekend) to watch the SVTOA and some Cobra R club have their fun. First thing I notice (other than a bunch of stangs that looked alot alike) was a new Ford GT (I love living near Detroit). Well we noticed that they were giving rides to a few people. We were later in the day talking to a few of the Marketing team that brought the GT to the track and asked if we could still get rides. They were taking money for a charity, so we gave them our $40 and got to be one of the probably 15 people who got to take a lap as a passenger in the GT.
It was utterly amazing. I can't even begin to discribe the feeling. He drove it further into the corner that I would have ever imagined possible and just stood on the brakes and it stopped effortlessly. He then aimed it into the corner and tromped back on to the throttle. The car just plain stuck. I thought I was on roller coaster. Where he aimed, it went. The car was capable of doing most of the track in second gear. He shifted into third on the last big straight and we hit close to 130 (not sure exactly, I found the speedo as we were slowing into the pits and it was on its way down quick. It had no problem reeling in a SVT Focus from a few corners back in less than a lap. Riding in that thing was the most amazing feeling I have ever felt.
The driver told me as I was finishing my lap that I was one of but a few people who have ever ridden in one of the only 8 GT's that have been built so far. The car had about a thousand miles on it.
