The 8th SC/GTP Club Clash will be held at Tristate Raceway in Earlville, Iowa on October 16th.
The track opens at 9:00 and T&T starts at 10:00.
We will run two qualifying runs starting at 11am. Eliminations will begin at 12:30.
Anyone with an MN12, GTP or Grand Prix is invited to pertisapate for the trophy.
If you are planning to attend, please let me know.
I just want some kind of an idea of how many are coming.
We will most likely do something after the races. There are several things going on in the area Saturday Night!!!!!

Mike,
There will be three, maybe four of us coming over from Nebraska on Friday. I think the plan is to make it out there sometime in the afternoon/early evening. I plan on staying in Cedar Rapids for the event. Know of any cheap hotels?

There are several in the 33rd Ave. area. The two Super 8's, Motel 6, EconoLodge or Budget Inn are in safe areas and would probably the cheepest ......
Any of the ones on 33rd Ave, Southgate and 6th Street are in a safe area and have police and privarte security patrols all night. They are also about 1.5 miles from my house!!! The Budget Inn is North of me about one mile and is also in a good area.
Here is a fairly up-to-date list of stuff in the area. (see link)

Upon further review, if I come, I'll problaby drive the truck so I would not be partaking in the other festivities. Unless you'll allow a stock F-150 to run with the Mn-12's and GP's :D

Yeah, I'd love to be there, but seeing as how I'm leaving that next Wednesday for 2 months...I can't make it. Oct 8th will be my last time at the track this season. Next year I should be able to make a few club clashes...at least one of them...

I've added website links in the past few days to the hotels that have websites.
Budget Inn and Motel 6 will probably be the cheepest ones! They are both nice, but don't have meny frills!!!! Look at it this way, most of the time you will be in the room you will have your eyes shut!!!!!

I think there is a pretty good chance I'll come but it will be a Saturday only trip so I can hit the auto x Sunday in Council Bluffs. I don't know if I'll drive the truck or the car out though. But I've seen a lot of people post that I'd like to meet so I want to try to come out.
I might bring the car to fit in but I want to run the truck at the track once more so, I guess we'll see. I might wait til that morning and see how the weather is, if it is going to be a cool day with good dry air, I'll be more likely to run the truck because I can get a new best time with it, the T-bird isn't going to run a new best this year with it's extra poundage.

Thomas - let me know where you guys are crashing and I'll get a room there as well. Or maybe book two rooms if they can be next door or something.. I don't know
I've gotta figure out if I am even going first.
If you come and want to split the room Friday night, that's cool. If you don't come, that's cool. Whenever I go someplace, I always budget as if I would be paying for the hotel room on my own so I've got enough :)

Okay, here's what I've been reading on the midwestthundercats.com board.
chadg, rancherlee, and possibly aedm8 as well as a few others WANT to come but I don't know how many of them are set on it. Rancher seemed pretty set on it, as did chadg (if he gets his new converter installed in time) so I guess I'll keep this thread updated.
btw for those fo you who don't know, rancher runs high 13's with his vortech supercharged 3.8 tbird, chad COULD run 10's if he gets everything worked out right, and AEDM8 I believe is in the 12's.

Stay away from the Econolodge-owned by a Paki family who do not give a s### about maintaining the place-they just want money-they also have about 20 members of the family living in the hotel.

I hope you can get the car running in time to have some fun. I got my EEC Tuner and the 91 is running real good. I'm taking it to the dyno a week from today and I'm going to Cedar Falls on the 9th for a little test-n-tune before the clash ......... :D

Well my motor is starting to look like Thomas A's now :D I just got my valve covers delivered today and I have the entire motor assembled minus the air filter and downtubes. Also need to fill the fluids and make sure the oil is 100% oil (No water) and then I can start it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm praying that I did everything right. I have fuel pressure so that means my pump install went well, and the motor turns over with a ratchet so thats good (there's a story behind this)
Okay I'll tell the story, since I have nothing better to do. I had my cam in and my roommate stopped by to help out a bit. He tried turning the crank with a ratchet and it wouldnt budge.
"Is it suppose to not move?" he asked.
"uuuuh, I think so yeah>" was my reply.
He glanced over at my stock cam and noticed my thrust bearing still on it. OOPS!!!! so we swapped it over. I ALMOST TRASHED MY MOTOR!!!!!!!! That was a close call. Thank God for friends.
Oh and Andy or anyone else, I might need a spot to crash since I'm thinking about ehading over the day before for the festivities. :)

You're farther along then I am. Most of my dash is out of the car with the wiring laying on the floor. The tranny is sitting on jackstands so I can finish a few things with it and I'm waiting on parts. The rest of the parts should be here by friday though. I don't think I'm going to attempt the Cobra rims/brakes/bolt pattern swap. Even though I could do it in a day I know some part would be missing and I would be sol. OK-for those that ARE showing up, and coming over Friday night, I have a couple of suggestions.
We could go over as a group to the Fajita Factory-good food at cheap prices-you can get a fajita platter that will feed 4 people for $30-or we could grab the clubhouse at my apartment complex-throw some vids onto the Big Screen, and shoot the bull. At the FF we could have some brews-at the clubhouse I don't think you can have alcohol, but I have to make sure of that.
I still have a futon available for Friday.
No wonder the town is booked the weekend of the 16th  Iowa v Ohio State-being broadcast on ABC. The Iowa v Ohio State has always been a huge game for fans of both teams, and games at home will fill hotels from Iowa City to Cedar Rapids, Walcott Jct to Williamsburg and even as far west as Altoona.
The only rooms left at the HI in the south end are 2 Queen Bed handicap rooms at 75.65 and 89.00-I checked the Motel 6 website and there are King Bed rooms available for $49.99 for checkin on the 15th and checkout on the 17th.

Not really ....... but, most of the ricers go out into the industral areas to do there racing ...... The "business muscle" comes out late and then they head out of town very quietly to do there thing!!!! After all, theres no reason to involve or hurt any of the normal folks.

We were tenitivally planning on going out to eat when eveyone gets here, (Around 8:30 or so) and then find something else to do after that ........
Where is everyone staying? In the 33rd Ave Area? We can do a fire in my back yard, go Cart Racing, hut for ricers, or just hang out at the Super 8. No matter what we do, we can have a few brews and do some bench racing!!!!!
If we go hut for ricers, I'd prefer not to drive.. That's the last thing I'd need on my vacation.. talked to a CR Cop about racing :) I'll ride though. If things go right for me, I should be there by 7 but it all depends on what time I get off work and how much *** I haul across Iowa :D

What time are you heading this way on friday? Are you traveling with Melon?

I may have ran into a slight snag as well. The meeting for work that was supposed to be today (Wednesay @ 3pm) got moved to Friday @ 2pm, but I'm going to talk to my boss and call his boss and tell him what's going on. Basically, I'm going to try to do whatever I can to get out of having to go to the meeting. Here's how I look at it - meeting 2, stay for an hour (makes it 3pm) 2 hours to Des Moines (5pm) deal with Friday traffic (5:30 getting out) and another 2.5 hours to Cedar Rapids (makes it about 8pm) When I can leave at 1pm like I wanted and make it the 4.5-5 hours like I'm planning and be there by 6. I might add a line in there about having to be there at a certain time to keep my reservation or something.
Basically, I'm getting shot at but I'm going to duck the bullet and not show up to the meeting :D Oh, and I'm pretty anxious for the meet as well - mostly just to hang out with everyone again. The racing is just a bonus :)

&^%&^$ I called Super Tune Performance this morning and they ****ing lost the file. I am so ****ing frustrated right now. I'm heading over to FedEx to have my god damn eec overnighted to Florids, who knows how much that will cost. I've only got 15 bucks in my bank account, my credit card is maxed, I don't know what I'm going to do. I'd put up a crying smiley but I'm too damn frustrated to look through the list.

Well, Brian is going to be in St. L tomorrow and Friday, so I'm going to send my eec there, which means it stands a better chance of reaching him in time, and it'll cost less. BUT if I had money to drive down there I'd rather do that and bring my chip back with me. Anyone up for a road trip tomorrow? :)

I'll go if you come and pick me up. If they lost your file shouldn't they pay to have the eec shipped to them the second time or at least give you some money off the chip?
Thomas

well they dont have my chip. Brian at SCT in FL has my chip, but they didnt have my catch code on file, so I went to this place SCT dealer in Kansas to get my eec scanned, they charged me 20 bucks. They said they'd refund it and call me back (yeah right).
Come pick you up in Wisconsin? haha.
Well I just sold a halfshafted throttle body so at least I have some cash to ship this thing now.

Who knew that a Mark VIII had an extra 5 inches of length welded in behind the spare tire well all the way across? Makes a T-bird cat back come up a little short apparently while gaining you no extra trunk space or interior space oddly enough.
Thomas
10-13-2004, 04:31 PM
I thought that was the difference between the mn12 and fn10 was the extended trunk.
Thomas

oh, so I just overnighted my eec to Missouri where Brian will be to pick it up tomorrow and send it back same-day. Hope this works out.

ARRGH!!!! A Mark VIII is NOT a Thunderbird!!
I found some more differences. I fought with the exhuast for 3 hours tonite. It's all on there now, but it's still not quite right. The Mark VIII tapers off at the rear a lot more then a Thunderbird. It's width at the very rear is less then that of a MN12. The MN12's I guess are more "boxier" and the Mark is rounded. So, the Y pipe is basicly too wide, and the mufflers are seriously jambed up behind the bumper cover. I'm going to go to the exhuast shop and beg and plead to sneak me and and shorten that Y-pipe.

Don't take I235, stay on I80. Add an hour if you use I235 there is major construction on I235.

Thanks for the tip.. I usually screw up and take I-80 through anyway cuz I'm a dumbass :D
So update on my 'Bird since I haven't posted in a day or so.. Still at Firestone (dropped off Wed. morning for alignment, found some bad bushings so am replacing) They got the bushings this morning and ended up getting the WRONG ones from the auto parts store (stupid bastards at CarQuest. They got the right ones and then got busy in the afternoon. I stopped in today about 3:30 to find my 'Bird in the air and the guy working on the bushings. I told the shop manager (friends with my dad) that I would REALLY like to have it back by noon tomorrow since I'm leaving for Cedar Rapids. So we'll see what happens. Once the bushings are changed, the alignment still needs to be done. So we'll see what happens between now and tomorrow.

I will be coming, come hell or high water. I may do an oil change in your driveway (or garage) Mike, but I'll be there. Also, might be a bit late. Things aren't going "A #1" with my 'Bird at the moment, but tomorrow is a new day.
I'm prepared with a Plan B, which is bringing my Ranger - though I REALLY don't want to. But I will be there.. now, I'm just not exactly sure when I'm going to leave.

Well, I just have a few small things to do and I'll be ready. Hope to be in CR around 6pm or so. I'm actually staying in Manchester, but will most likely stop in CR and see what's going on before heading up there. Mike, could you e-mail me your cell number.

I got my car all ready to go tonight. Finished up a few small things and everything seems to be running well. Ran it from 15-105 and it felt great!!
I'm pretty excited also. This will be my first and only meet outside of Nebraska this year! Look forward to meeting everyone!

Thomas Aden that is...not me :)
WELL I have no chip, so I put some 22c's and a 180 t-stat in my 95 4.6 so I can run the second higher octane program at the track. I guess I'll be racing my stupid v8 :(

Not sure about anyone else, but I had a blast this weekend. Even though it was cold at the track and we didn't get as much time to race as we hoped, it was still fun.
I'm for sure going to try to make it one next year. It was fun meeting the new people and hanging out with the old people. Thanks Mike for hosting a great event!

yeah it was really fun, though I was hoping to actually drop a few tenths from my last run in the v8, and I stayed the same. Traction was an issue, so I'm hoping next time I'll run better times. It's hard for me to believe a chip and 90mm LMAF wouldn't improve my times. And it deffinetely feels a lot faster. Ah well.

Yeah, I had a great time also! Would of been nice if they had prepped the track, but oh well. My trac-lok decided to die on me anyway, so I couldn't heat up the tires. The track kept getting worse throughout the day, but strangely enough I ran my best time on the last pass?
Anyway, good to see all of you guys again, and meet some new guys! Here are a few pics that I took from this weekend:

On behalf of the Super Coupe Club of IOWA, I want to thank everyone for coming to the Club Clash this weekend. I had a blast and I hope you will all be able to come to Club Clash IX in April '05.
I just posted the Event Recap on the IOWA website (http://www.albeedigital.com/supercoupe/articles/clubclash8.html) and I'll post it on the Iowa board here and on the Iowa BBS at TCCOA in a few minutes.
