Soon to be new to town??

Hey gang, looks like this will be my new local group... I've received a tentative job offer for a position at Fort Meade (halfway between Baltimore and DC). I don't know a thing about the area (aside from the fact that housing prices are crazy!) Any advice is muchly appreciated... assuming I actually get my bird back from the shop (where it has been for over 1 1/2 years) I hope to purchase a detached house with a 2 car garage (can't dump money in the car then leave it out for the elements right??) Anyway, any advice or things to look out for when new to the area is muchly appreciated.

If you're going to be near Ft. Meade you're probably closer to the guys in the Mid Atlantic chapter... about a 4 hour ride down to Norfolk in "normal" traffic.
