OK I still have this car. I do not want it around. I have a bill of sell from the guy I bought it from.
I have done soooo much work to this car. It might as well be brand new. The paint is PERFECT. This car is a steal for only $1,200.
I do not want this car sitting here at my house anymore and I do not have any time to get the title. Please someone that wants this car buy it for a good home.

Please post the VIN # - my PC at work telnets to the MVD and if the car is not on a "hot" sheet, I can be up to get it later this weekend. I have gone through this before, and trust me, there is NOT a State in the US that makes it easy to get a Title to a car without the current owner. Average turnaround time is SIX MONTHS, with MAJOR headaches along the way. :(
Now, if you CHOP it and sell the pieces, THAT is another story! :D
However, after you push the carcass into the street, when the police run a trace on the VIN and find the REGISTERED owner, they will make HIS life MISERABLE, starting with a brick on his drivers license.
So, if the car is what you say it is ..... let's get it OUT ouf your drive!! :D

If I had time to get it I would keep the car and drive it. Its hard enough to lose what I am let alone let it just sit here. I work days and never have a chance to apply for it.

I can't transfer it to MN without a title. Won't let it be plated. Very strict on these issues.
Do you have the title from your purchase of it? Did you sign the title when you purchased it?
No idea what you do for work, but I don't make $1k a day.

Is there ANYone in the area that can check it out before I buy the plane ticket just IN CASE there is a horrible rod-knock that the owner can't hear? I would really hate to WALK home, so I am looking for some help!(or at the very least, some advice!) Thanks! ;)

Anyone else notice that he DOESN'T have the title and that he has NOT posted the VIN?
Without a title it seems that the person that sold the car to this individual that now has it in his or her position did not want him or her to have ownership.
A title can't be produced and a power of attorney is required to get one?
I would at least be getting the VIN and running it and contacting the previous owner or getting the previous owner's information from the person that is now getting rid of it.
Remember he or she bought it to just fix it up with the few problems it had? Doesn't sound like a reason to not have a title. Go ahead and cross state lines with something valued over $1k and have it become a Federal Crime. You are best to get the exact reasoning and proof from the current owner and the previous one with a complete VIN history.
This was a can of worms I didn't want to open having done so with a 1968 Chevelle SS 396 Convertible. Been there done that and won't do it again. There are other cars out there with titles.

I by NO means meant to make anyone sound like it wasn't a legit deal, just had a question asked to me about this car and what I would do, so just stated it and where I stood in the process.

Well BIRD, I agree with everything you say .... EXCEPT :
There are other cars out there with titles.
NO there aren't. NOT like THIS one. ESPECIALLY, not out WEST! Search this board. This entire club is for everybody on the East Coast. SCs are dirt cheap in the Carolinas or NewYork. Heck, there is even someone GIVING a car away in King of Prussia, wherever that is. The '89 that SuperT is selling, at UNDER 100,000 miles with all the new parts and a 3" exhaust system is literally worth OVER $3,000 !!! Check out the pics of the undercarriage! It is clean enough to eat off of ... looks like brand-spankin NEW!
It's only comments like this that worry me :
If I had time to get it I would keep the car and drive it ..... I work days and never have a chance to apply for it.
No idea what you do for work, but I don't make $1k a day.
I agree with BIRD here. SuperT must be making TWO THOUSAND a day, so to take a day off(just a morning, really) to get a Title and sell the car for $3k would be a wash? Still ... this car is too BEAUTIFUL to pass up!!!

Live, learn, and use the smell test on everything.. When something doesn't smell right, use caution. When information is hidden, withheld, or excuses offered, and followup never happens, something is wrong.. Some of you weren't using your sniffers. ;)

I told you the car is clean. I just dont have time to file for the title. And when I get home my wife wants me to be here with the kids. I simply cant take the time to get it. I will help in anyway. There is no lies I showed you the vin in pics and I have the b ill of sell from the owner. I will also have him sign a power of auturney. I will do what I can to help will just have to be on week ends. In witch the DMV is closed. Think what you want. There is more than 4K worth of new parts on this car. 1,000 is nothing to what I have spent on it.

Well, FAN, ya don't NEED a 'sniffer' when ya have a TON of cool 'quotes' like ... "If ya snooze, ya LOSE" and "Nothing ventured, nothing GAINED" and "NO GUTS - NO GLORY" and a sign I saw on the bumper of a girl's Van in LasVegas : "You can't be FIRST, but you can be NEXT!!"

Dude, give it up man.. you don't own the car.
We know what happened.. you gave money to a guy who fed you a line, said "That's all right man.. come-on man be cool (only I imagine it sounded more like "Bee Kooo" said rapidly multiple times), come-on man.. I'll mail you the title next week.. its at my moms (Big lie). come on man.. you know you want this car.. take it today.. I'll let you drive it for free for a day.. come on maaaaannnn". So this goes on incessently until you buckle and hand over your cash, he skips out on his loan, skips out on you, and leaves you holding the bag. You drive home with a big smile all over your face which your wife slaps off the second you tell her about it. Just hope you didn't get stung for too much.
Fast forward to the present. You'll have to gain possession of the car by first paying off the lein which means a bunch more $$ out of your pocket, maybe 1000s more. Then the lienholder would probably give you the title. From there, then you can sell it. This is why your wife is all over you to get rid of it as you can't drive it. Of course, if you approach the leinholder and then don't pay off the lein, then you risk a visit in the night from Repoman. So, we understand your reluctance to go downtown and tip your hand to the bank and DMV, but either way.. the car is a driveway anchor unless you can find another sucker to pass the bag to.
You're sort of stuck either way. I'd let the leinholder repossess it, which means you will lose what you've paid for it (thats a fact no matter what happens), then bargain with them to resell it back to you, which costs you more money, but at least then you can own, register, and drive it. Call and negotiate, explain what happened, maybe they'll cut you deal. Explain how the car has devalued from the original price, offer them blue book -25%.
But a bill of sale, compared to a title, in this case is like showing showing a credit card to a police officer instead of your license. Its sort of irrelevant.

The seller did not skip on me. I can call him and or go to his house on the weekend. I don't care what you seem to think. I can sell very little of this car in parts and make more than 1k. My wife does not allow any free time. And I work everyday of the week and can not afford to take a week day off. DMV is not open on the weekends. I can file for a SHOP lein and get the title. Possestion is 9/10s of the law. Meaning if I file and Have the car I get it. The other lein is then wavied for the title and Lean amount is sent to collections to the owner that signed on the lein. :-D Its my car weather you believe it or not. I would rather see this car go to a good home and help the buyer get the title than Rip it into pieces and Crush the car with my truck.

Sounds like you have a plan and some work to do then. ;) Post here when you get it done; maybe I'll even make an offer on it at that time as Colorado is close to Texas.. However a car w/o title is not even worth so much as a drive across the street.
If your wife is behind the push to clear the driveway, then get her do the Phone/File/DMV/Title/Lien legwork.. that should at least get her off your back about it. Turn the tables on the situation and make it her problem instead of her gripe. Just make sure she doesn't own a sawzall.
