Dick Adams and and a few others have suggested Labor Day. Please let me know what you think.

Labor Day is fine with me. actually, April would've been fine, too. but, i've seen a couple of people already complaining about having the National Meet on Labor Day. like you, i would rather have the meet when it's not blisteringly hot, but it seems that you can't please everyone. just pick a wekkend and stick with it. if i were to suggest a date, then how about Veterans Day weekend in November 10-11? the tempurature in OKC should be ideal for racing, and college students shouldn't have anything going on that weekend. plus, it's a Federal holiday. just a suggestion.

Ah...isn't the meet in Columbus, OH that weekend also??
It was last year and Dick Adams was there...I met him that day. Very nice man and his car is immaculate!
Go ahead...someone confuse me more?????
Phil
p.s. Perhaps later in the spring or summer would give more people extra time to get their car running just right for a commute of some distance, too. My main fear is breaking down at 1,000+ miles from home. That's scary!

Phil,
Thanks for the kind words. I am reposting here what I put on the non-tech board a few days ago, so you can see what my thoughts are re: Labor Day.

Kurt,
I think pushing it out to the end of summer, early fall is a good idea. As you may know about 20-25 of us have gathered at Columbus OH on Labor Day since 1996. For the past couple years the Ford Expo event that we attend there has really got bad. Bill Evanoff and a couple of us decided last that we should consider somewhere else to hold this meet. Maybe we could look at replacing the Labor Day weekend event with a national event. Let's talk to Bill about this and see if can get some input from him and the other club members that would likely attend. I agree that the original date you have set is too close to WFC and Carlisle[for us east coasters]. I'm sure you're aware that a true national meet is a very long trip for those of us that live on both the east and west coast. It is going to take some long term planning, so people can make their plans. Also I think we should have the full support of the club [at Evanoff's level] so it can be properly announced/promoted through the front page of the website and the newsletter. Let me know your thoughts.

Dick,
Good thoughts, there, and I agree. I'd try my darndest to make OKC (with the SC) if we move the Labor Day meet to that location. I passed on Carlisle last year and then realized how much fun these things can be when I attended Columbus.
Yeah, if Bill E. is up for it and we can still get a good showing from the northeast and midwest SC guys, I'd support a move.

Labor Day is fine for me. I agree with Dick Adams, about allowing plenty of time for planning and promotion of the event. Just nail the dates and we can start planning around them.
Thanks, David

how about sometime around may-june where no one has school and all of us college people can attend, the problem with having it during fall or early spring is most of us are 500mi+ away (ionically im 666 miles from ok city, scarrrryyyyy) and id want to drive down on thursday/friday, and drive back up on monday, not viable during hte school year

we're trying to avoid the summer months, Peter. remember, this National Meet is being held in Oklahoma City, and our SC's just does not like the heat (neither do i. ).

Labor Day weekend is usually before most colleges begin their semesters. and although Labor Day weekend is still kind of hot, it's most likely better than May-June.

I don't know...I just think summer would be the best, even though its not the best for our cars. But sometime between june and august and I think you'll have the best turnout because all the college kids will be out of school and won't have to worry about missing classes in order to drive there and back.

what about making the meet a little further north, ie cooler in the summer, like say indianapolis or st louis?

I have to pick my vacation dates for the year by the end of January...I already put in for the end of April. Lets set a date soon! I still can possibly put in for other dates. May/early June is not hot...September/October isn't quite as wet. Let us know as soon as possible! Thanx - Dave

it seems like Kurt is leaning towards the Labor Day weekend in September to hold the National Meet. it will still be held in OKC no matter when they finally decide to hold the meet. i highly doubt the place is going to change.

Stay tuned as it may change yet again. OKC or Vegas will most likely be the event locations, but Charlotte, NC may be a possiblity too.

FordvsChecy.com is still going ahead with their 1st National meet in OKC on 27-29 April, so many of you that were counting on going there then, should still plan to do so. i believe a strong showing of SCs in that event may just lead to bigger things with them and we still may have an SC congregation with special activites for us only.

Like I said, be patient and stay tuned. Finding sponsorship and getting all of SCCoA involved takes planning and the April event is fast approching. Check out www.FordvsChevy.com and find the event page for a lot more information on track time, hotels, registration and more.

kurt,
i'm good for either place or anytime. i dont think that the time of year will be that bad. we'll just all need to bring some ice to the track. the other thing is that i remember that there was a sin city II meet that was being planned for sept also, i wouldnt want to miss that meet, because vegas is the greatest place to hold a meet. just factor that into the planning of the meet.

Hey, you guys could come to good 'ol Nebraska. Right now it is about 5 degrees. Nice and cool for our SC's. I guess anytime after the middle of May would work for me. Good luck on finding the best date.
