What year car are you working on?

If working on a 89-93 SC, you need the 89-93 balancer and 89-93 vane
If 94-95 SC, you will need the 94 balancer and 94 vane/sensor ring
The vanes are completely different between the two types.

THe 94-95 style vane can be found on 94+Mustangs,97+4.2L trucks and vans.

I need a 94-95 crankshaft timing vane.
I discovered my old 89 vane won't fit my new balancer. The hole in the center is too small! This is a diff. between the early and late types, WHO KNEW?
I could also use a stock crank pulley.

I'm working on an '89 car but the engine I am transplanting is a '94. I bought a fresh long block and need the exterior motor parts to complete it.
I have the BHJ balancer for the 94 and need the vane unit for it and the stock pulleys.

Really, you need an 89-93 BHJ balancer to work with the 89 SC's EEC. All your 89 sensors will bolt onto the 94 engine. Unless your doing a complete 94SC EEC and sensor swap. I do have a crank timing ring from a 94sc and a pulley.

cougar sc, thanks for the post.
I could use more information.
Is the vane gap or positioning different between 89-94?
I need to use the 94 balancer and I would rather not change out the computer,
although I could do that. I'm sure somebody wants to sell me a computer, but then, is my old wiring harness ok?
I'm not confused yet, I just want to build something that works.
I could also machine the 89 vane unit to fit the 94 balancer, would that fool the computer? The obvious difference between the 89 and 94 is the size of the center hole.
Anybody want to chirp up about my bird issues ....Jump in

Thanks,
Bobb (graywolf)

The rear ring is totally different between the years. So is the crank sensor. See Mn12performance for the pictures of a 94 timing ring.

See if you can trade for an 89 BHJ from your vendor.

BUt you can machine your BHJ to match your 89 balancer mounting area, so your 89 vane will work. Take note on how everything lines up.

my car had a 95 shortblock in the 90 car. that is how i ended up with the 95 balancer. i thought i needed a 95 balancer for the 95 motor.

you have to use the old timing cover, and balancer, mafs, crank sensor, and wiring, etc if you want to stick with your early model computer.

otherwise, you'll need to use all 95 stuff.

i wouldn't recommend machining the bhj balancer, i would see if you can exchange it for the early one if you are going with the early timing cover and stuff.

or, like i said, i have a good balancer, gear, and crank pulley for sale.

what do you want for the 94-95 bhj?

I think I'm in for some measuring before I can figure out which way to go here.
I need to see what will line up with what.
Will it be easier to mod what have or try to get an 89 style BHJ? I think I want to keep the 89 vane and sensor. but
1. Will the 89 balancer have a problem with the 94 front cover?
2. Can I make the 94 fit? What about timing marks and the pointer?
3. If I really need an 89 BHJ, anybody want to trade? Mine is brand new

it physicly wont hit any thing

2. Can I make the 94 fit? What about timing marks and the pointer?
it will fit on the crank and the timing marks and pointer are all good
but without the corect (89-93) pip signal from the crank sensor
the car wont run

i would see if your old crank sensor/bracket will bolt to the new style cover
and judge from the position of the old sensor if the 89-93 sensor wheel will hit anything and then sell/trade your balancer for the early one
(p.s. im not interested in it anymore i decided to go another route

Thanks for all the comments, guys!
I have figured out how to use the 89 style vane unit, so I still need one '89 model. I'm making a new mount for the pickup unit to move it .5 in closer to the block. Then I can use the 89 vane by enlarging the center hole.

You got a 89 vane?
thanks
