I've been doing some work for local car guys for the past couple years, and Peter Roy mentioned that i should check out this forum. I'm not sure exactly where Peter got my contact from, but does it really matter?

To the point... i have a pretty decent shop setup, and have CNC capabilites with some of my contacts. I can machine and fabricate just about anything. Custom pulleys, brackets, exhausts, piping, intercoolers. I can also do engine and tranny work, porting... and i'm sure i've left things out.

IS there anything anyone has been looking for and unable to find? Or something they need custom built? if so, let's talk.

Nick, that looks like nice work. Can you post the location of your shop, and some contact info, for people that might want to get in touch?

cheers,
Ed N.

I saw your post on the Turbo Dodge mailing list, I have a Turbo II 5Spd Lebaron GTS - this car is alot more fun than most give it credit for, however it does remain 3rd in the stable as my SC is #1 followed by my 71 Mustang.

Nick, welcome to the club!

I have only three questions...... at this time.

1) can you mandrel bend tubing?

2) if so, what sizes?

3) what materials can you weld?

Mooohahhahahahah. The possibilities are endless.

Like Andrew asked can you do mandrel bending If not what can you do then?

Nick Boers

I do not have a tube bender. All my piping is made from straight pipe and mandrel bent sections that i cut/weld to the shapes that i need. The end result is the same, but with a bunch of pretty welds at the joints.

I can get nearly any diameter of tube, 1" to 5", aluminum, stainless, and aluminized steel. I can even get Inconel and Titanium in some sizes, but it's expensive. I have welded steel, aluminum and stainless. I'd like to try Ti or Inconel though :D

A TIG can weld ANY metal. It just comes down to the operator and the right shielding gas/tungsten.

I've been invited to a Wednsday meet, i can show you some of my work by popping my hood, and you'll see how i make the pipes. Just keep in mind that they were built before i got the TIG in the garage, so they're done with the MIG and the welds aren't pretty. Up until a few days ago i've had to go elsewhere to use the TIG, so i only used it for what i HAD to. If i had the TIG when i made my IC pipes, they'd have been TIG'ed all the way.

What type of TiG are you using?, water cooled tip?, inverted power or just straight 220? liquid or fan cooled?, she handle pretty high amps for a extended period of time?, one I use at work, can dish it up to 330amps and she just purr's right along.

I'll talk to you when you come out - it'll be easier to show you then to explain it. Keep your eyes open on the board and see which one will suit your needs - Pickering isn't exactly "local".

Nick Boers
09-16-2004, 11:31 PM
I've been using an older CANOX 230v machine with a liquid cooled torch at my friends place up until i got my Lincoln PrecisionTIG 185. 230v, fan cooled, air cooled torch. I think i'll be getting a liquid cooled torch for it in the near future.

Most of the lunchbox inverter TIGs are only DC.

What a person considers local is a matter of opinion. Although Brampton might not be right next door, it's not that far either.

I like your outlook on locale. Sounds familiar, but then again, i'm biased because of my location and "official-ness" - LOL!

Just a heads-up, we'll likely be getting together next Wednesday in the Keele & Steeles area. I'll post official/specifics on the weekend.

Nick,

Hmmm...you can weld Stainless?!...

Have you ever installed an exhaust system? Or done any Stainless custom header work? :D

Jim.

Nick Boers

Yeah, i can do stainless. Build a few custom exhausts over the years. I can do headers.

my step brother and I are getting into carbon fibre stuff. We are in the process of making a carbon fibre custom lower intake for a guy in Missouri. We also are making some hoods and other special parts. We could make carbon kevlar pipes if you want them.

I assumed it would be metal, lol. You can't bend carbon tube, you'd lay up the composit in the elbow shape. It wouldn't really be a mendrel bent elbow now would it? :p

Nick, as you've already found out, some of us (us?, yeah, us) can be a little ..... um...... immature. It's all meant in good, clean fun. Well, except when they're picking on the 4.6 guys - and vice-versa - LOL!

You do seem to be taking it in good form. That's good. ;)

Nick,

Sorry about that...still working on sourcing a loaner. I don't have one myself, so I'm relying on the good graces of others. And the folks I've been in contact with regarding the pulley and IC have either been super busy or have been out of country! :D

So it's been a scheduling conflict of sorts to hook up. I'm hoping to have the stuff by Thanks-Giving! :o

I'll drop you an email once I have the stuff in my possession.

Jim.

Jim and Nick,

I'm getting home late Thursday night. I shouldn't be back on the road again until October 24th after this week, so we should be able to hook up so I can lend Jim a spare stock crank pulley.

What else were you looking for? I think I've got a spare stock IC I could lend you short-term. I've also got spare IC tubes.

Jim, we need to hook up anyway so I can grab that balancer off you. I'm looking to contact someone about a new camshaft soon too! ;)

Cheers,

Sean
