Anybody know what size the upper starter bolt is??
Went to pull the starter since it crapped out on the way to Wed's meet, lower bolt no prob, upper is just stripping with a 1/2", 12mm too small, 13mm too big.
Some mechanic ain't gonna be happy if I don't get this off myself, as of now I stand defeated!!!!

tag weld a wrench or a piece of bar to the head ..to get it loose then cut wrench or bar off to spin it out.. or take a demel and file the head down to get the open end of a 12mm wrench to fit ....if you do any welding with a mig unplugg the EEC ....dave

i had the same problem and what i did was i went to Sears and bought one of those bolt out sets.. it sits on top of the rounded nut or bolt and as you trun it off it bites in the head and it turns it out no problems it is a good investment ive used it like 100 times since i got it...Anybody know what size the upper starter bolt is??

Steve,

The top and bottom bolts are the same size. The heads on those bolts are different for some reason and are rounder than standard ones. I've had old sockets that were worn enough that they would not grab the head. A brand new socket of the same size did work. If it's already stripped, then Sears does have special sockets for removing rounded/stripped bolts.
