Hey there everyone.
This week my buddy overheated his 89 SC. He never noticed the temp past the M on the gauge, but had all the symptoms- pinging, steaming, low oil pressure, and so on. Right before he shut it down, he heard a POP from the engine compartment.
Here's my theory- engine was low on coolant= air in the system= gauge wasn't reading properly. Thermostat stuck closed causing engine to overheat. High engine temp= high coolant system pressure, causing the freeze plug to blow out (passenger side head, rear). The engine has a fresh rebuild with Fel Pro gaskets.
We already replaced the thermostat and freeze plug, and luckily she runs like a champ. Any comments? Anybody think there is other damage? thanks, JJ
