i have a 94 auto, with traction control. i know that i don't need the friction modifier. however, i want to use redline or royal purple and they have friction modifiers already in them. is it ok, to have the friction modifiers when they're not required?

You can buy straight Redline 75w90 without the friction mod. However, from experience in my '93, after I added Redline synthetic diff oil a few years back, I've replaced 2 pinion seals and the side shaft seals, due to leaks. So in my '94 I just replaced it with regular gear oil and had no problems. I can't say the synthetic caused the leaks, but it does flow thinner and expand more than petroleum based.

Since it's such a pain to drain and refill the diff, I had Jiffy lube flush mine and install synthetic lube about 2 years ago. They said it already contained friction modifier. Seems to be working fine and there are no leaks.
