What do you guys drive in the winter?

I bought an 89 GMC Jimmy 4x4. Its a white 2 dr. w/ blue interior, no radio, and someone chopped up the lower dash shelf and the 4x4 shifter trim is gone, but I got it for $300.00 and it runs good. I had to put an O2 sensor and a coolant temp sensor on it. I also think the rear passenger wheel is bent since my friend said it wobbles. I jacked it up and tried to move it in and out and it is solid. So hopefully some cheap black rock crawler wheels and maybe some BFG All-Terrain or Mud-Terrain tires and a cd player for it and I'll be set. I'll do a tune-up (cap, rotor, plugs, wires) and see how it will do. The body is rough, it has rust but someone painted over it, so its all white like the truck. The tailgate is black. I'm thinking about bondo over the rust and then rattle can white to match the rest of the truck. I just wanted a cheap 4x4 to play with off road and in the snow to keep my bird in hibernation. So far I have invested about $28.00 into it in parts. I think I'll also get new shocks and a cheap cd player and dash mount kit.

Oh yeah its got the 4.3L V6 in it, and someone cut off the cat so its got a decent sound to the exhaust, maybe I'll put a flowmaster 40 on it. I will get bored and have to play with this one a little. I'm thinking about a cheap B&M shift kit also. It has a roll pan on the rear and street scene mirrors, and head light conversion w/ plastic housings and hyper white light bulbs. For $30 I can order a black plastic air dam for under the front bumper w/ fog light holes from Auto Zone, might do that too. Some has removed all the emblems and side trim. The title says Jose Campillo, guess he got stopped w/ no insurance and they towed the truck. I got it from a guy who has an impound and he gets titles to stuff people can't afford to buy back. I want to keep the mods under $50.00 each. Don't want to sink a ton of money into this thing, just enough to make it fun to drive.

Anyone run Mud-Terrains in the snow? How do they do, I have heard the new design ones are good in snow.

Anyone else have an older S-10 Blazer or S-15 Jimmy?

Tranny barely shifts
Cruise doesn't work
Half the time the driver window shorts and have to hit the door in order for the window to come back up.

But the heat works, and it starts every morning

stick to ur fords like this guy i drive a 92 explorer sport 5 speed to it never lets me down

I drive a 2002 WRX wagon. But I drive the SC too, because winter around here isn't much different than the rest of the year...

my LX or my mom's altima, because she takes the jeep in the winter. this winter, however, the LX will be gone and i'll most likely be driving a new truck.

winter beater????

What's that???? Oh yea, that would be a F350 4x4 with one of those power stroke diesel that has gotten the "Banks" treatment, and a chip for good luck..
Around here I have already started to put the "flock" to rest for the winter. They go inside a plastic home made box that holds three birds in each. This keeps them clean, free from unwanted guest's, and keeps the moisture and the stuff that comes with it away.......Rich :) :)

Hey Man it's Florida... I'm going to be driving my 93 5-speed SC on good days, my 89 5-speed SC on the not so good days and a E150 Cargo Van on the really bad days (Nothing like a big white box going down the road). :D :D :D :D

Used to be my SC up until a few years ago. Now, it's whatever nice new truck the dealership has for me at the time ... check my sig. for the current ride. :D

Had an 04 F-150 XLT this summer, that spoiled me a bit. Have to see if I can talk the Sales manager into giving me another one of those to drive when the Ranger I have now is miled out (we usually take the vehicles off the road, to go on the lot as a demo at around 15,000 km).

cheers,
Ed N.

My other car, a 04 Mazda 3 Hatch with an Automatic. Great little car, but my wife is finally going to start driving so the SC came into the household, thankfully she won't have her license until winter is pretty much done, or at least intermittent since it is Alberta.

Looks like i'll be driving my sc all winter in the beautiful, cold, icy state of Indiana winter weather

Primary vehicle now is the 95 4.6 Cougar. I've done the J-mod to the tranny, 3.55 gears and a rebuilt traction-loc. It also just got a new set of BFG Traction T/A T's so it should be ok for most days. The bad weather vehicle is a '99 F150 Ext Cab 5.4 4x4. If there's enough snow that it can't make it... we're all in trouble. :)

The SC will still make an appearance here and there if I feel like it. Although, after the first snow and the salt dust hits the road, it's pretty much useless. :D

My 2001 Ranger 4.0L.. I like it. The first vehicle that is MINE. My dad keeps telling me that my 'Bird is my car, but his name is still on the title :) If my 'Bird isn't in storage, I'll probably still drive it once in a while but the Ranger will be my main ride for the winter.

'03 Ranger FX4 L2.
It's a neat truck but it drinks gas and has a horrible power/torque curve for a truck. It begs for an autorotor!!

Wife drives the Expedition, & I drive the Mustang. The SC goes under the cover. But since Virginia doesn't really have much of a winter, I take the SC out occasionally.

Like my sig says, a 93 Escort, my $1 car. Runs (a little), doesn't matter if i screw it up (i've tried to blow it up already it won't!!) It's kinda a fun car to putz around town with, and piss off ricers and other cars by rolling around at stoplights (it's a 5-speed), and revving up next to them and stuff. Anyways, next plan for it, is to get something better once it completly blows up. I may be trying to get a Red 5-speed SC for my "other" car and keep my newly painted SC for my go-fast moded car and the other SC i'd hope to get as the daily driver.

Anyways, for now, 93 SC and 93 Escort (4-door)

Nick
