hi. long way from home. im from australia and i have found a 3.8l supercharged v6 out of a thunderbird. It was brought in by ford australia as a test reserch engine for the localy built au(1998) falcon. the project was shelved by ford. however i cant find any info localy on the engine. I assume 96-97 model. does anyone know how much they weigh complete, with starter, flywheel ect. ( no gear box) i am looking at putting it infront of a toyota celica 5 speed box in a pommy 79 ford escort. (1000kg standard curb weight)
Also what hp are they standard, and with headers, big ic, bigger injectors 5 or 10% over drive pullie ect,( bolt ons) what hp could i expect to get. thanks heaps. david

Can you get pictures of the engine? Ford didn't make a 3.8SC for the t birds in 96-97, last year was 95 (at least over here it was). Stock HP for that year is around 230, Torque is about 360 ft-lbs. Is it complete with wiring harness, brain, supercharger etc.? Do a search for the weight on this website, I have always wondered the same. Good luck.

ford made the sc in 96 in mexico, so they probably might have shipped a couple across the other pond :) stock power for a 94/95, and probably a 96, is 220hp/330tq.

Complete with accessories, supercharger and IC it weighs about 450lbs. Expect about 250hp at the wheels with the usual bolt ons. The motor would do much better with a turbo on it. 350hp at the wheels would be easy with a turbo.

its complete with computer, super charger manifolds ect. no alternator, starter, or flywheel back. has piping setup for inter cooler. is ment to have done arox. 12h on the dino from new. $1500 austalian dollars. a turbo would be good but have verry little room under the hood. I expected a bit more hp gain with the bolt ons. ill try to get a photo this weekend.
i have been looking on this site and head flow seem to be a weak point as far as performance on these motors. is this the case?
been a great help, thanks guys.

Stock the motor makes about 190-200rwhp.

Headflow is a problem, but the supercharger is a bigger one. The best that a highly bolted on motor with the Eaton blower (highly ported, modified, and overdriven) has ever made is about 285-290rwhp. Without major modifications to the blower the best I've seen is about 250rwhp. I've seen over 300rwhp with no other mods other than a better compressor and IC.

With headwork and cam change the Eaton will make 330-360rwhp but with a better compressor it will make 400-450rwhp.

I was thinking standard hp as 230 at the wheels not the fly. those sort of figures make more sense. thanks for the clarification. 400-450rwhp are some big numbers. i think this motor is a must have for my project. do much better than the aprox 170hp at the fly that i have now. thanks heaps for the infomation.
