AOD leaks and Cat heat shield

My Lentech tranny is leaking out of the front bell housing, tranny
fluid, about 1/2 quart every 3 days. (Could be seals at tranny pump)
The dipstick has NO sign of leakage.
This tranny was bought new Feb 2003, and has around 12800 miles.

Please note the location of heat sheilds on Catalytic converters, turned
away from the tranny.
Do you think extra heat from lack of heat sheilds could cause leak?

Thank you in advance.
Chris

Not really...mine are just about as close. Are you sure that it's leaking from inside the bell housing (check the cooler lines)? If so it's most likely the front seal for the torque converter.

yeah, I've been jacking up the car for the last 3 days in a row, hoping it would be either the cooler lines or dipstick with No luck. I was mainly concerned about the LACK of heat sheild on the cat facing the tranny, might have helped the front seal to deteriorate. Mr. Transmission quoted 400 for the replacement of 4 seals in that area. Mr. T said he is 90% sure it is not the Torque Converter seal.

I wonder if Mr. T did a quality installation, the first time. At 12800 miles it is a bit early for this to happen.
My two previous FORD trannys went 100k and 60k with no leak but with OD failure.

Mr. Transmission said it was front pump seal. (and $403)
Its done now and works great. Shifts slightly smoother
in autoShift mode. Still strong in manual mode.
I guess the TV cable is set differently. No leak or pond, now.

See attached pic. Number 3, 4, and 8 are the seals.
Mr. Tranny thinks it was #3 or #4, and not sure about #8.
He also replaced the rear seal, while he was at it.

If 4 was the culprit I can see the reverse heat shield could
have had an effect, as it seals the pump to the outer case.

Chris I'm with you on those shields, I dont like that. The heatshields on all of my cars and truck are either facing the floorboards or turned facing vital components such as the tranny in your case. Theres alot of heat rolling off those cats. Maybe installing some more heatshields so that both sides of the converters are covered would be a good idea, it certainly would'nt hurt anything and could only help your poor tranny.
