Hey guys i was thinking about goin with this exhaust setup but wanted to run it by yall to see if you had any input on it. Im simply gonna cut the exuast somewhere in front of the resonator and run two dynomax mufflers with turndowns. ne one run this or hears this setup before.

actually my exhuast is all stock. gonna leave the cats and run two mufflers where the resonator is. any suggestions on what muffler to run. Tryin to keep it cheap.

I'm going to possibly go with a custom exhaust setup as well...

I think I'll have the Second Ever Set of Greg The Spy Downtubes...minus the 3rd degree burns... a magnaflow resonator and either some Dynomax or Flowmaster mufflers...with a rather large set of tubing all around...

A while ago I toyed with the idea of eliminating the resonator, but when I got word that it makes a funky sound, I threw that idea to the wayside. You have to remember, this is a boosted car and not a big cubed V8, some backpressure is needed to keep a good amount of boost. Get a high flow resonator, and eliminate the cats. The dynomax mufflers sound like a good idea though. I was going to run open headers with side pipes that exit behind the doors on the XR7...what was I thinking!

Wow, I really have made a name for myself, eh R.J.

People asking me for advice? Who'd a thunk it?

You're still the man though!

You are right though, I'm a little off kilter, and that's being modest. I think the only one who can keep up is Dan, only because Dan's brain works similar to mine, which is inherently scary.

Dan, I think this would be an opportunity to say something!! :D

What's your setup, my handi-capable friend?

Essentially what I did was I just punched through the cats...Allegedly  .. And went to a "Y" pipe then removed the resonator then out to the Flowmasters and Chrome downtips

I don't have any cats, just downtubes...the rest is stock.

I was warned about a totally free flowing straight pipe system?

Well, if you don't have a lot of dough like me, i would go with a dual in-dual out muffler where the res. is. It keeps dual exhuast/crossover but maintains backpressure (w/cats) and run pipes to the back 2.25". Mine sounds good for a V6 and is not at all buzzy. Let me know if you need a muffler. OUt the door I payed $225. Might be a little harder to run daul pipes on the older SCs though, haven't looked into that.

My last sc had deleted cats and resonator and rusted out mufflers and sounded like a cross between a rice burner and a harley. I hated it.
i dont think you can run duals after the resonator on early sc's??

what the hell was i talking about sorry it didnt make sence to me
i have the old mn12 performance system down pipes no cats a magnaflow resonator and dual dynomax mufflers it sounds great

A buddy of mine did my cats basically what he did was drive/drill a rod thru them it relieves some back pressure not all of it...sort of a poor mans high flow I guess...The car has no buzz at all and no resonator. nice, low, and mellow :D

How many of yall run the magnaflow highflow resonator? Anyone run it without muffers?? Where could i buy one of em?

I had the cats gutted, and resonater removed into two Flowmasters, it is tinney. I need to install the mag resonator. You'll hate the sound if you dont have the resonator.....Trust me....

well ive pretty muched been convinced to go with the resonator just wandering if anyone is running the magnaflow res. with no mufflers.

Get rid of the cats. They are very restrictive even if you rod out the insides. Just take a look at the small pipes and the 90-degree bend they make. Get a set of Winn's(Tird88) catless down tubes or make a set yourself. Last year I put on a set of catless down tubes and ported the exhaust manifold outlet and it made quite a difference combined with my existing flowmaster cat back system.

You also have to remember that Bryan can do stuff like that. ;) Just look at his intake setup..you can't buy that piece.

But yeah...it's not hard to do the exhaust...BUT IT HAS TO BE DONE!!!

What is the stock inlet size for the muffler?

The magnaflow res (keep in mind this is a straight through X-design unlike Flows) is fine without muffs in the rear as long as you have the right pipe size and tips. I also have stock cats, 2.25" pipes to 45* tips in the rear and it has no drone or tinny sound at any speed. Nice rumble at idle and a powerfull tone in revs. It is also easier to do your exhaust this way and it will save you $$ because there is no Y-pipe to weld/bend. I seemed to have gained a little more power over stock even with the stock cats with this.

By removing the stock cats/down tubes, installing 2 1/4" catless down tubes will make the exhaust louder and eliminate a huge restriction. I did this after installing a Flowmaster Force 2 cat back system. The exhaust probably doubled in volume. In my opinion it sounds awesome. I think RJ can attest to this setup also.

Yeah...Bryan's car is nice sounding...I think it's better than the Cobra...in fact, you really don't need to Cobra, do you?

I'm sure I can find a place for it...

Im gonna go with a fullboar muffler to use as my resonator but i need to know the stock inlet and outlet size for the resonator. THanks guys

well after lots of thought i think im gonna go with tbird88 downtubes 2 1/2" to a magnaflow resonator to 3" to 2 1/2" out without mufflers. i could always throw some mufflers on if it sounds bad.
