If your speedo still registers the speed, but the odometer has quit, this is probably the culprit.
Each gear costs $25.00, installed for $100.00, now if this sounds too much keep in mind that a new speedo unit from Ford is about $220.00 if you can find one.

I hear junkyards are a nice option. Might even get mileage close
to yours.

Can you buy one from a salvage yard for under $25 bucks? Maybe not. If you can work on your car, you can replace this gear. Takes about an hour from start to finish.
If you live near Orlando, Ice Cold Auto Air on SR50 in down town Orlando has these gears. Talk to Mike there. Not many places will sell the gear, they want to do all the work. I don't like most of these places to touch my car, let alone allow them to "work" on it.

Jake,
You'll need to remove the guage from the cluster. Then disassemble the guage. You know, pop the needle, take the screws out, there is a wire you have to pop from the guage that supplied power to the odometer drive motor, then remove the drive motor assy. from the odometer area. Once this is removed, you should see the gear. It's really small. If you need, I can try to photograph an old guage to help show this.

No you don't need to post pics thanks though Glen. I figured it was in there somewhere but after taking it apart to a point I thought maybe I should put it back together and ask some qusetions. Well I'll look in there some more and dig a little deeper. Thanks.
I think I see it under the bress thing. How can I tell if mines broken?

Jake,
You need to remove the little motor that powers the odometer. When you do, there is a gear set that will be able to be removed. Inside you'll find the little bugger with one tooth missing. It only measures about 3/16" across.

Jake,
The motor that drives the odometer is shown in the attached photo.

FYI - Try looking on EBay. I bought a complete gauge cluster for about $45 to have as a spare. I think there were a bunch still on there. HTH.

Jake,
I'm pretty sure the 20 tooth is the one. But if you have the broken one out, bring it with you to be safe. If not, are you meeting with us on Saturday at Daytona? If so, I can bring the old one from my speedo.

Careful, don't sneeze while holding it. You'll never find it if you drop it
You get your fan replaced yet? Missed you today at Daytona. Only three SC's managed to show up.
