You made a good move! Best of luck if you just bought an SC, or Cougar XR-7!! Great cars.....I absolutely LOVE my Super Coupe! I had a 1985 Turbo Coupe back in 1986, it was a great car, and it started my Thunderbird love affair! They can be money pits if you choose to "do all the mods" but the satisfaction I get from my 90 is well worth the occaisional headache! Good luck all!

The hood is availabe from Cervini...Its a direct replacement...Very easy to change out. Its the best fitting hood on the market for an SC. Check it out here...http://www.cervinis.com/
& here http://www.cervinis.com/shop.html

The headlight covers are available through Summit or Jegs

Hey guys,

Just wondering where I can get black headlights, or what I can do to give them that blacked out look. My bird is black, and I think it'd look pretty sick with black covers or something, and super whites behind them. Also, what do you think a black SC would look like with the 35th Anniv. rims on it? Thanks.

Really like the hood on the red Super Coupe, may want to do that to my new ride, mentioned in earlier post; a 91 Red SC, 5 spd.
Will take delivery this week.

All original, well maintained, 120K miles, runs great.

I want to hook up with some other SC fans in the Florida area or at least the Southeast. I was just at Turkey Rod Run Thanksgiving, had no clue I would be finding this 91 SC even though I've been watching the car for 11 years. Fellow worker at Siemens in Orlando.

Anyway, he bought new car, put his 91 SC up for sale; I'm the lucky new owner.

Hey Camp89 i believe our SC's require a steady diet of Premium Gas. depending where you live is what octane grade they will offer.. 93 octane is good, but some states offer 91 octane as premium.. the reason for higher octane is because of the supercharger, if you put gas that is less than premium you'll get detonation and that will kill your engine, possibly even break the pistons.....

As the the proud new father of a 3800 lb. (Baby SC) Black w/ grey leather w/ automatic I can say that this website was very instumental in my finding the exact car that I wanted since the ad was in your clasified section. It was also very helpful in securing the research that I needed for information on this vehicle. Everyone was very forthcoming with helpful and insightful information about the MN12. Thanks to all of the guys that replied to and are still repling to my questions.

I just bought a red '93 Thunderbird SC as MY first car, my last car was an '87 saab that my dad gave me. I bought my SC for $2,450 with 130,000 miles, my dad thought i was retarded for buying it because there's no room under the hood to do anything, but i love the car and i'ts now mine - he wants to drive it all the time though, i will never let him. For the audio system, i've put in a Rockford Fosgate 9300 CD/MP3 player, 2-12" Rockford Fosgate Punch Z 400 watt subs and a Rockford Fosgate 300S amp. I also put in some Eurolite Xenon crystal blue headlights and GTS headlight covers. I want to get together with some SC owners around the south-eastern MA and RI area, i live in South Attleboro MA. By the way, i love the Ram-Air hoods, are they functional?

Hey everyone,
I finally found a Super Coupe in my area that was in decent conduction. I really love this car. I previously had registered a 90 Tbird coupe. It always drove excellent but the new rid with the super charger is totally different and far superior.

The new ride came to me totally stock. There's two items that need fixing. The A/C is out and the subwoofer distorts, so I'm looking for advise from some experienced people on those two items.

Here's the car.. anybody know what it would retail for?

Hello I have had a 90 35th anniversary with a 5 speed for about 2 weeks. Is there a way to stop wheel hopping or make not as bad? Any help is very appreciated.

SCgraphics guy
09-07-2003, 10:53 PM
The easiest solution is to put some good rubber on Find some 225/60/16 ZR...speed rated tires. Its what came on the cars from the factory. They will help but not elliminate wheel hop.
Many SC owners wore out the original tires and opted to put cheaper rubber on...not the best idea for performance type driving.
Also there are improved bushings for the suspension.
If nothing else check out the bushings/IRS and rear suspension for damage & replace with the better bushings

Hello, and thanks for the welcome. Just got my 1st. And I think it's a keeper... 92 auto, White, blue interior 70000 miles, pristine, not even a ding in her. Was traded by my bosses wife, who never had a problem with it until the head gasket went. He traded on a new 2003 "T". New hg's, sensors & brake job. Dealer had it as his driver and entered it in a local car show, took 2nd. place stock classic 87-95. This is my 5th T-bird, have had 4 1988 Turbo coupes and loved them!!! Thought I had a passenger side reflector out, (the expensive one) but it was just loose at the connector. So thanks for the site, am sure i'll get alot of info here.

Hey! Thankyou for the welcome. I am a new owner of a 1992 SC and I love it to death. She was sold to me by someone who I thought I could trust, but I was prooved wrong. The car had gone through 2 previous owners who didnt take care of her and I am determined to make her all better. I have already put $4000 into repairs and I paid $2000 for her. (big drama cuz im poor) It would be too long of a list for me to say exactly what I fixed up. Anyway... I love the way she handles and I love her speed I just dont want her to die on me. If anyone knows any mechanics in the Atlanta area that specialize in SCs, please let me know. :o

Hi everyone.
Last week I test-drove this 91 black SC, and feel in love with it. During the test drive the owner said I couldn’t buy the car right away because he lost the title. The car drove great, no sounds, and the AC even worked.
One week later he called and said I have the title. Well I went running and bought the car for $500.00 body is mint! The cover over the dashboard needs to be replaced, and have to update the alarm.
Now the but, when I drove it home with out plates, it was making a ting sound from under it? Also when I was driving at 5mph the car stopped not the engine but the transmission. I put it in neutral raced the engine and put it in drive and off it went? Could it be that the car sat for 3 months before I test-drove it?
A very happy sc owner

hey thanks for the welcome , I have recenty purchased a 1990 sc . I had problems right away . two days after I got it the tranny blew all the seals and the overdrive servo. But it's all rebuilt now and working great. I have to admit the car grew on me real fast and I am hooked. I got a real good deal on this car. It was in a freinds brothers garage for years. It has only 66 thousand miles on it and is nearly perfect. I picked it up for $1,700.00 and after the new tranny I'm in it about $3,500.00

Hello everyone!

I just finished paying off 2,000 USD for my SuperCoupe. My obcession with Thunderbirds started in general when my grandmother had an '85 302 NOS when I was a child. She would often enjoy leaving folks behind with her fifty shot. Yes, you read right. She was sixty-eight when she bought and modded it.

A few years ago, I found my first 'bird, and I found it to be the NA model... it was a complete lemon, but I didn't believe in giving up on it since my grandmother helped me to buy it. I replaced everything in it to stock. It's perfect now. Unfortunately, my grandmother died a couple years ago, but I felt I needed to keep the Thunderbirds coming and going!

So, I bought a 5-speed TurboCoupe a year later. Little did I realise how tasking the ABS system, relays, and motors would be, but I found ways to bypass the entire system, and it's run flawlessly ever since. I still didn't feel quite right with just the TurboCoupe, though.

It's a year later, and I just drove home my SuperCoupe tonight. It's a 1990 model, with a shift kit, cold-air induction, flowmasters, two-tone paint job, rebuilt tranny and every other money-pitt part that I had to replace in my NA has been replaced in the SC. It has 134,000 miles on it. Talk about a ride!

I'm happy to say I'm glad my obcession has given me a collection even my grandmother would enjoy; although if she were here, she'd say, "What are you doing wasting your money?!" But, I know she'd secretly enjoy them, too. :)

Glad to be here.

I bought a 1990 SuperCoupe this summer for $2200.
Its white and it is an auto.
I like the look of it, the feel, and the speed.

Known mods are....

Dual flowmaster catback
shift kit
transmission cooler
removed airsilencer
I also have a k&n cone filter which im putting in it.
Everything else apears pretty stock.

What are some other cheap and easy mods i could start off with?

I've always loved the SC, just the best car in my opinion. When I bought my first car I couldn't come up with enough cash for it so I settled for the regular T-bird.

Well, 7 years later I finally bought myself the toy I always wanted :)
A 1992 Supercoupe, standard tranny, only 75,000 miles on it. The guy that sold it to me kept it in perfect condition exterior and interior. NOTHING wrong with it.

I'm in love! I smoked 3 different mustangs over the weekend

I just purchased my first 1990 Super coupe, for $500, with 90k showing!, Red with Ebony leather interior, I was looking for a set of Supercoupe wheels for my Black LX in the local paper. My SC was listed under parts (wrecking) When I phoned the guy to find out if the car still had its wheels, He told me that the SC was still complete but had a few minor dents down the side, with no parts sold of of it yet. I began wondering how bad could this Parts car SC be? Last summer I replaced the Head Gaskets and heater core on my Black LX, all by myself, A major problem with all these thunderbirds!. The guy told me he had recently had a mechanic do the heads and also had just rebuilt the tranny. So we set up an appointment for me to veiw the car, three very long days later I pulled up in front of his house with my black LX, The super coupe sat in the driveway, It was love at first sight, I bartered him down from his original asking price by telling him a few usual thunderbird stories, He had told me the car had been sitting for a few years, and needed some work, I told him that the people who buy these cars are few and far between, I told him that the car might have a bent frame because the panels didn't line up. after an hour of putting the car down. We made the deal. It now resides on my front lawn, the only problems I have discovered so far is a cut brake line near the master cylinder. and there was mold starting to grow in the interior, (I sprayed the whole interior with Amonia and the mold is gone). Wow what a score...

Hey guys, i just bought a 95 SC, it's not here yet, but will be delivered to my door on Monday, July 3rd.... i'm losing my mind waiting on it. this is my first SC although i've driven a few...things just never worked out for me to get one until now. Here is a list of what i know of the car....the SC is ported and the plenum also...the resonator is out of the exhaust, it has a 2 in 1 out flowmaster, the air silencer was removed and now has a K&N cold air intake, the HG's were replaced also.... the car has 134k on it... is there anything specific that i should check on the car when i get it?

Hi, My name is Andy and I am 17.. For my first real car(other than project cars that my dad would get bored with and make me sell before drivable) I bought a 1993 SC Automatic. I have had it for 2 days and have never been so thrilled to drive. A good friend of mine, who had a 91 SC 5-speed, recomended the car. I have plans to first rebuild the exhaust (which now is stock) and then after that I want to put in 4:10 rear-end gears. Basically I am looking to crush the egos of the "IMPORT TUNER" crowd at my local drag strip. What do I need to know???

I just bought a black 1993 SC 5-speed 173,000 miles on it. The owner said the p.o. just rebuilt the bottom end. So it has about 40,000 on the bottom end. I also got another 3.8L SC motor that has 80,000 on it complete with pcm. I got this smoking deal from my fathers friend for ready for this $500:eek:. the clear coat is bad but other than that its in very good shape. I never knew this club existed. I bought a 90 sc with 130,000 on it. I've had an 86 3.8 that I converted to a carbureted 5.0 that I rebuilt completly in my driveway when I was 16. Also had an 87' TC but I never really took to her, not enough torque. Uncle had a 90 thunderbird stock car too, and plenty of parts cars between us. I gotta tell you the SC impressed me. Took off from about 5 mph and burned em' all the way to grabbing 2nd, burned that gear for about 3 or 4 seconds and backed off, deciding "shes good." Pulled her into the garage and started tearing her apart for head gaskets. Had a 3 angle valve job done, and am doing a bunch of routine things to get her back in good shape. Getting a 94 blower too. Cant wait to see what she'll have for me in about a week.

i am also looking to get a 90 sc but was wondering how much of a performance differance give me if i put a 94 95 s/c onto the engine, would i have any bolt-up issues, and would it cause more stress to the engine because i know the 89 to 93 engine had about 20hp less than the 94-95 engines. I was wondering if that was the actual engine or the s/c

nickleman60
05-11-2007, 11:46 AM
the 20 hp difference was largely due to the upgraded supercharger with coated rotors and it's a direct swap to the earlier models, with the '94/95 inlet plenum connected to it of course.

Hello everyone!!! My name is Ron and this is my 1st Super Coupe. In 1992 I had a 1997 Turbo Coupe fully loaded. She was black on black and a very great lookin car. 8-2-2007 I got my fully loaded 1990 Red Super Coupe with black leather interior. It had 67,000 Miles with one non-smoking owner. She was garage stored and never seen a winter. I paid $4995 and drove 600 miles to pick it up. I plan on making this ride the baddest ride I have ever owned!!! Unfortunately I rear ended another car doing a panic stop 8-4-2007. Talk about being sad. It's getting fixed soon with an after market hood and clear corners.

Hi!
I have just purchased a Silver with dark Blue interior 1989 SC
This is my first Super coupe! I have had a 1989 T-bird coupe when they were new. (Couldn't afford the 'extra' 8K for the SC...)
A few years later we picked up a 1990 T-bird LX for my wife.
Both of those are long gone....
This SC, I know the previous owner and what has been done to the car. 160K and it runs strong! Just getting used to a 5-speed again.
So this makes the third flavor of T-bird in the 89-97 era that I have owned.
Need to fix a few things but mechanically it is in great shape!

Recently purchased a 89 sc 5 speed with less than 80k on the clock. It's white with gray interior, completely rust free! I plan on doing some mods to it in the near future.

Thanks for the welcome. I bought a 95 5spd, pearl white w/ tan leather interior. Looked for about a 1 1/2 years in all the classifieds and I really wanted the 95 w/ 5spd do to its low production number. They were either to expensive or totally beat on, if I knew about this site I am sure I would have found something sooner. Well I found mine 2 miles from my house at a buy here pay here for 3900, all and all I thought it was a good deal. Drove it for 2 months, the supercharger belt was rubbing on that u shaped little hose, rubbed through it and the car got hot (Fla summer) and it has been sitting in my driveway since august. Tired of looking at it while it sits there but when I am done redoing it she'll be awesome. Even in stock form the car seemed well balanced and the 5 spd made it a really fun car to drive as I like to shift my cars. I Plan on holding on to her forever or until she turns into dust but with proper car and no accidents she should out live me. Thanks again

Couldn't help but notice the Icons on your thread. Fabulous. First show, 1975, Golden Gate Park. (I was 5, mom took me.) Anyway, a friend told me he had a car for my girlfriends' daughter. I asked what kind, he didn't know. Some old Ford, left by his ex. I thought oh great, a Taurus or something, but said I'd look it over. Surprise! 92 SC!! Metallic black!!! Good condition, just really filthy. Blown head gasket. After sitting four years in his yard like that, I put the jumpers on it and it fired after like three cranks. The car has spirit and wants to live again. He just gave it to me, and had it towed to my house! I am in love. I am excited. What a car! It cleaned up nice. I started breaking down the motor today. I'm gonna do the gasket kit for now, providing everything else (other than the stated issues) looks good. I've had cars I was proud of before, but this is different. My girlfriends' daughter isn't getting it. I'll find her a Toyota. I may need advice, so I'll be sure to update for ya. I can't wait to get this rock rolling!:D:D:D:cool:

great find, there is alot of information on the site here to properly do the head gaskets so they dont blow again, and also ways to make sure it will run forever. The next step would be to pay the 15$ membership to get access to the rest of the forums. Also do post up pictures its always nice seeing an sc being restored back to the roads!!

Did I read that right, someone smacked your car?! Thats' awful. Hope its' fixable. I'll take some pictures and post 'em for lookieloos. I plan on paying the 15 bucks, just haven't done so yet. After a good days' work on the bird, stripping it down to the heads, I started getting overwhelmed and down on myself a bit, while sitting on the couch like three hours later! Oh my god, can I put it back together right? There's so much stuff. I've got skills and I'm handy. Maybe I'm just tired and neurotic. Gotta go to work, make money, pay for this project. Check in later tonight.

yes my car was totalled and no its not repairable, there was over 8 grand in damage. Also when i had to tear apart part of my engine its good to take alot of pictures, and also go buy a sharpie marker, and some zip lock baggies. Place bolts in the bags, and label them. Also if it will help draw little diagrams as to what bolts went where and how many just in case something misses the bag. Doing this raised my confidence alot and made the reassembly process alot easier and stressfree!! Alternatly if you do get stuck post something in the tech thread as there will be many people willing to help you and give advice from previous experience!

I just bought a very clean 1990 SC and it runs great had it inspected by a mechanic and the car is in mint condition. The previous owner was the original owner, very well maintained vehicle. I have affectionately named the car the Scuba Coupe after the fact that my nephew calls me Scuba Steve. lol Anyhow, I love the car and have already planned a few major upgrades. I will be looking to you all for support in what would be best since this is my first supercharged vehicle.
