this morning I was on freeway when this WRX comes along side, he honks horn and does his best to impress me.
we were doing 70 when we took off.
at first I pulled away from him pretty good, then at about 100,
he passed me about one car, then at 120 i pulled awy from him he gave up , we got off freeway and went at it from dead stop,
conclusion dont ever race a WRX from a dead stop!!!!!
he waxed my hide. but good he pulled two cars on me and kept it .
I like them WRX,s real quik !! I was very Impressed.

I was able to beat my brothers stock auto WRX off the line no problem back when I was stock. I gained about a half a car and kept it up till about 80 and then we shut down.

Thats not possable Manny! You have an inverted Eaton M90 Supercharger, there's no way a little turbo motor beat you. :p
You should stop eating those mushrooms, there distorting your reality! :p :D

mike its stock right now. the inverted is in back seat resting .
only mods are 70 mm tb ported blower and intake dD shape and ported heads and exh manifolds gutted cats thats it . had to smog it and never got time to install inverted again runs good so why get dirty and im working 6 days a week so time is for beer and bbq

*puts L shaped fingers to head* LOSER! lol I raced one while in power band revving the crap out of the big whitelight. It pulled while he was spooling but when he was revving hard he would get to my front bumper, then fall back and the process repeated itself for a few gears. I could hear his blow off valve, he was granny shifting and a sucky driver.

Well that does'nt matter Manny because you are still using a supercharger and theres no way a turbo out performs a blower, there are several threads at this site which explain how its not possable. :p
I think you made this whole story up Manny because everyone here knows that turbo's do not make as much torque as a blower and besides that they suffer from turbo lag. You obviously were asleep at the tree because the turbo suffers so bad from lag and its lack of low end torque that theres no way it could beat you from a dead stop.(again, many threads on this subject) :D
I suggest that you do a search of this site so that you can see for yourself just how impossable your tale is. There's no way a little turbo'ed 4 banger with all wheel drive beat your big 6 cylinder blown rear wheel drive car. The WRX has 3 strikes against it from the get go. 1. 4 banger engine. 2. Turbo instead of blower and 3. all wheel drive.
There's just no way what you're telling us is true, just do a search here and educate yourself about it. :p :p :D

Since I might be the only one posting here who has a WRX, I'll give you my impressions - first, if it was an auto WRX, forget about it, only the 5-speeds are worth talking about. Between a stock WRX and a stock SC, it would be close. By the numbers, a WRX is almost a second faster in the quarter mile. But it seems like a lot of WRX drivers don't know how to drive it, or put on stupid performance robbing mods like an atmospheric-vent BOV to get that "cool sound". So on the street it might be slower.
BTW Mike, how is #2. turbo instead of blower, and #3. AWD a "strike" against the WRX? I think you've got it backwards my friend, that's the main things working FOR it! :D

Could it have been an STI? Also not all that hard to mod those WRX to get some more jump.

Well Rob most everyone here knows full well that a roots blower beats a turbo in boost reaction(no turbo lag), just do a search here on the subject. :D
The all wheel drive subject has also been talked about here alot also.
Everyone knows that rear wheel drive is king and that extra drag of the all wheel drive drivetrain really pulls down the WRX motor. :p
The WRX is a turbo'ed 4 cylinder and that alone makes it impossable for it to beat an SC out of the hole(because of the turbo lag and because turbo's do not make as much torque as a roots blower), much less hold that lead through the 1/4 mile. Now add that extra drivetrain drag of all wheel drive and surely you can see how its just not possable for a WRX(of anykind) to beat an SC in a dead stop drag. :p Dont believe me? Just do a search here and all the expertise here will set you on the right path. :p ;) :D :D

Despite all the expertise, I'd be happy to drag race any SC here in my WRX and beat them soundly.

Mike.
I'm a little dissapointed in you. :( 4 banger, turbo lag and AWD not withstanding It is what it is. There are plenty of boosted civics out there that run 12's and would blow your doors off from a dead stop. That WRX may have a 4 cyl. but its a boxer motor that has a decent amount of torque for its size. Couple that with a turbo charger and no need to worry about traction and you have a car that from a dead stop should easily beat a nearly stock SC. Mannys story makes perfect sense. On the hwy where our blowers can peg the boost gauge and keep us pullin we can run, but a stop.....I wouldnt even try it. I'm not even gonna touch on the weight issue either.

All the experts know that turbo's are topend enhancers not roots blowers.
The experts also tell us that turbo's suffer from lag wich severly hampers there abilities to make any lowend torque thus making it impossable for a turbo to beat a roots blower out of the hole. :p You seem to be saying the opposite, which of course the experts have already disproved. Check for yourself. ;) :D
I mean why do you think NHRA funny cars use blowers instead of turbo's? ;)
Because blowers are superior in every way, just do a search and enjoy reading. :p ;)

My pc just booted me off so this is the second time I'm typing this.
Mike,
I understand the difference between turbo and SC but I dont think that you are being objective when looking at this. First off, I know there are posts about turbos but if the authors dont work for Subaru then its just general info here. The standad WRX has 227 hp @ 6000 rpm and 217 torque@4000 rpm. Now while 217 isnt the 300+ that we have its still nothing to laugh at. Couple that with the fact that Mr. WRX can spool up his turbo and launch at 4000 rpm with.....and heres the kicker......LITTLE TO NO TRACTION LOSS and there is no way in hell that we can get off the line with him. Thats not to say that we cant catch up but stock to stock its a faster car. Now as far as top end goes, if you've ever driven a N/A 3.8 you know that its a dog and at highway speeds its a friggin St. Benard. Slap the blower on and punch it at 75 and you'll see 10-11 lbs of boost and 120 comes up quick. Thats what I mean when I say that the SC keeps us in the running. C'mon man I know it hurts but you gotta accept it. Its a faster car......un modded.

Mike 38...I only have four words for you...POWER TO WEIGHT RATIO
WRX 227 HP/ 3085 LBS
SC 230 HP/ 3790 LBS
Someone else can do the math. Statisticly the WRX should out accelerate the SC. Not to mention turbo lag is eliminated if the turbo is spooled at the time the light changes so...I'll side by Manny on this one. I wouldn't put my pink slip up against any power added light weighter. Not light to light anyway. Top end...all day long.

To be correct all WRXes are turbo AWD cars. The non-turbos are called the Impreza RS. There AWD and have the same engine as the WRX only without the turbo and alittle higher compression. :o

Actually, not correct. The Impreza RS has a 2.5L NA, the WRX is a 2.0L turbo.

My brother in law has a WRX, and he and I of course have been going back and forth over who would win. We haven't put them on the line yet, but it's coming. I have riden in his car, and I can tell you I am Nervous. It's like you say, he can spool up, and launch at 4000. I don't think I can cope with that, especially with a 4000 pound car with 100,000 miles on the clock. We are going to race the next time we get together, and I will let you all know what happens.

WRX vs SC both stock 5speed or not the WRX cannot beat an SC off the line I know cause i raced two so far one stick the other auto. one off the line which was stick the other on a highway in palmdale they can hang but not enough to pass me. not sure if both drivers sucked or not but they got GOT if you know what i mean.
