For some reason it looks like the rims are alot smaller on the xr7, then i have seen them on the thunderbirds, is this cougar lowered? are there diffrent types of cobra R's in model years?

Yes it is lowered, and it has 17x9 rims and 255-50 x 17 tires on it.

I do not have many pictures, the car is now minus the motor and transmission. I bought the rims (detroit) on Ebay ~$750 and the tires are Potenza ~$550.

I just put Cobra R's on my Sport. Wheelsmarket has hub centric from Detroit Wheel so you don't need an adapter or any steering mods ($200, no shipping.) I got 17 x 9, and put 245/45 on the front and 275/40 on the rear, Goodrich's. The tires are only 1/10 inch difference in height, so if you have ABS it doesn't effect it. However, the tires are very close to stock height so it leaves a big gap above the wheel. I'm not crazy about loosing ground clerence but I'm going to lower mine.
