That's quite a storm. Time to go surfin'? :p
Looks as though those waves in the one pic were about to crash your deck in a hard way. Had to double take when I saw Portland and ocean waves...Portland Maine is a ways from Portland Oregon..

Ya I'll say! That was at the house I'm currently working on. They arent more than 50ft from the water at high tide. I was trying to keep that driving rain out of the basement since I had just ripped the entire knee wall out the day before!
Down the road a few hundred yards there is a spot where during very violent storms enormous boulders get hurled onto, and across the road!!
Here's a pic of what living that close to the water, facing south, can do when your house is wrapped with TYVEK. With the drastic changes in temperature, moisture gets in behind the siding. The TYVEK gets clogged with dust and pollen thus not allowing it to escape....and here is the end result. $50,000 in damage.
However, for me, it's job security. :D So the more poor builders there are, the longer I can make a living.

Whoa! Looks a little like my repo I bought two years ago. Some of the siding had dry rot from some lazy persons' "Firewood Pile" up against the siding.
That insulation reminds me of the days when I used hang that stuff. Don't they insulate rim joists in that cold climate? That Tyvek is so indestructable..I thought.
The weather there is impressive!

Thats the trouble. Indestructable, and impenatrable....so it doesnt breathe the way it ought to once the pores get clogged. 15# felt is the way to go. Also on roofs we use 30# felt with Ice and Water shield on the icey areas.
Are you into photography? I do like photography and I love pictures of all kinds. Im a very visual person too, I learn much better that way....as the expression goes, a pictures worth 1000 words. As for my camera though, it's only a 1.3 mega pixel Olympus Camedia d-360-l. I have too many other hobbies that soak up my extra $ though to afford a new one.
Also, it's really neat to take before and after pictures of my work. The last house we renovated on the island was a 100 year old summer cottage that we rehabbed into a $250,000 "vacation home". A drastic difference, and perhaps should have even done a complete teardown and rebuild.
Heres one from a smaller job I did. As you can see this one is well insulated, and has the felt vs plastic. Though there was a plastic "vapor barrior" on the interior walls and cieling. Also you may notice the type of coworkers I prefer :D
