There is no specific book (from Ford anyway) for the M5R2. Instructions for repair on that unit are included in the general service manual for each year of Thunderbird.
cheers,

Hi Ed,
I've picked up a shop manual for my 1990 on eBay so hopefully that has all the information I need. I also picked up a copy of a Hanes manual on ford transmissions but it doesn't specifically cover the M5R2.
I'm considering a bid on eBay for the following item:
"This auction is for a 1989-95 M5R2 5 speed transmission manual. It is applicable to the 89-95 Thunderbird SC, The 89-90 Mercury Cougar XR7, The F-150, Bronco and all other fords that used this tranny. It was published by the Ford Parts and Service Division and is in very nice condition. It has 46 pages of very useful information on step by step assembly and disassembly. If you are going to rebuild your 5-speed this manual is a must."
Looks genuine. If I get ahold of it I would be happy to share with any club members.
Thanks,

Ford will sometimes publish a specific manual like that, not too often though. I wasn't aware of one for the M5R2, but it's certainly possible.
If you like, send me a p.m. with the eBay auction link, I will take a look at it. No, I won't try to outbid you!! ;)
cheers,

Hi Ed,
The item number on ebay is 7939636820. You can do a search using M5R2 under completed items and come up with this item.
You might try this address also: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7939636820&category=6759&sspagename=WDVW
The price went higher than I was willing to go and bidding has already ended. I just received a copy of the 1990 shop manual toay (through ebay) and I got a bonus "Electrical and Vacuum Troubleshooting manual thrown into the deal as a surprise. Although I had already torn down most of the M5R2 it's nice to have the shop manual now and it covers most (probably all) of what I'll need to finish the job. I'm now searching for the synchro blocker rings to see what I can find. After that comes the B&M shifter (best deal I've seen so far 160US).
I've read that this tranny isn't the smoothest for shifting. I'll be looking at mods to smoothen things out. I imagine finding the proper blockers will help.
Best Regards,

That's definitely a Ford publication. I remember seeing some like that on various topics in the late 80s / early 90s. Can't say that I ever saw that particular one before though. $60 US is too much ... everything you need to know should be in the service manual you have. And getting the EVTM is definitely a bonus, they contain great, easy to use info. With the 90 Mustang EVTM, the 68 Cougar shop manual, and an old Muscle Mustangs article, my buddy Stu and I were able to get the EFI conversion done on my old Cougar without too much difficulty a few years ago.
cheers,
Ed N.

all you need is the thunderbird manual that's all I had this past winter when I had my trans all apart to set it back up in to spec.
