Rear Pumpkin has play, what do I do?

Well the rear end in my 89 xr7 is getting a little sloppier everyday. What would be the best way to approach this. It is the factory pumpkin right now. Time for 3:55's right now or what? I'm on a tight budget (just had a new baby) so what would you guys do?

check the driveshaft bolts

The 8.8 rear gears are not prone to getting sloppy.
Unless your running it without any gear lube in it for a while, I would be surprised if it was the differential.
Check your driveshaft bolts to the yoke. If they loosen it clunks from power on to power off and it sounds/feels a lot like the diff is sloppy.

Another cause of sloppy feel in the rear end is the rubber bushings that hold the diff in place tear and need to be replaced.

I have already replaced the diff bushings with the polyurathane ones and put lock-tite on the driveshaft-to-rear end bolts. Still same problem....
