my 89 backfired and im close to getting rid of it if someone could give me some stuff to check out id be happy
it does have a idle problem and probalbly stock plugs 163k
 
In your case putting new plugs and wires on your SC would prolly get rid of your backfire. Backfiring is unburnt fuel leaving the exhaust pipes and out into the atmosphere. Replace at the very least your plugs and it should clear up your problems, but while you are doing it you might as well replace the wires too.

Hey just for fun at night you should rev your engine up to get it to backfire and have a friend looking at the ends of your exhaust looking to see if it shoots flames. That would be pretty cool.
