Bad wires

I had not read the posts before selecting my plugs and wires. I selected motorcraft wires and bosh platinum 2 plugs. I have only driven my XR-7 about 10 miles since the engine went back in!!...I started to get a bucking from the car at 1/2 throttle and after reading the bad publicity on Bosh plugs, I was convinced that they were the culprits. I pulled the #2 plug and smelled gas on it (not firing): I then saw the damage to the boot..it is the consistency of bubblegum in this area. I have Mac headers with header wrap to the front of the primaries. This thing either melted from the exhaust heat, the silicone boot was defective, or the connection was defective inside the boot causing internal resistance which melted the boot. I suspect the first case and will use boot sleeving on the wires. Well, I replaced all of the plugs with the autolite 764's and will try her again when the new wires arrive (have not decided which to use).

The lesson is...check your plugs and wires first if you have this problem!!
