The other day I went to the parts store and a guy heard me telling my freinds about my 460 SC &4.6L SC and he asked me why I didn't just get a new Thunderbird ? My responce, theres no new cars that have the looks and performence I like. The Supercoupe was the last new car I wanted to buy,and I got two. When I heard the T-Bird was gonna use the LS-Jaguar frame and gear.Cool , with a chip and 20's I'll be chassing down Z06's.I thought the new T-Bird was gonna be the way it was from the very begining, a high tech, sporty, luxury sports car.But they made a blood-fart. They made a car only pompus-jerk-off's and yuppies would like .
From 87 to 97 ,the T-Bird out sold all it's competion, not counting the Cougar & Mark7&8.The Supercoupe was faster than the Vett for 89&90 .And by 94 ford was uping production by 10,000 to 20,000 every year to valadate shutting it down.
In a couple of years that peice of waste is going to kill the bird ,and all they need to do is put it on the LS frame ,4 seats, and morden body lines to boost sales . Hell ,I'd buy one!But I dont know how to get them to change, and I was hoping some body would help me save Ford from them self. The LS frame is nice ,so is the Jaguar,it has A LOT OF PERFORMENCE but that car just makes me sick to look at.Help me do something to make Fords flagship (reither they like it or not)help them.E-mail me if you want to help.By the way , a Cobra engine can fit and the 3.9L and 4.0L V8's have blowers.

The saleen version of the new Tbird was hot...And if not so expensive I would surely buy one..
Hell throw an xjr motor in one..And fly
I wouldn't be so hard on the new Tbird. I don't care for it either, but it's a matter of taste. I don't know why they went retro to what the Tbird hadn't been in almost 35 years. It was a 2 seater bankers car for 3 years and that's it. For the rest of it's life it was a full sized 5 seater. They can't just go back it had a firmly set image by now.
If they'd put on similar headlights (with brows) and the fins on the back it would have looked a lot better. It looks like a melted '55. That's just my opinion though. I don't think owners are pompous or yuppies, most are older people who remember the original and have the funds for a 2 seater extra car.

A retired Ford exec told me the new T-Bird project was headed by a woman and had the car designed for women. She rejected the original design for "having too much testosterone." If it had been designed to look more like the 57 instead of the 55 I might like it but as it is I don't care for it.

I personally like the look of the newer 'Birds. They incorporated a lot, not just from the mid 50's but from the early 60's as well. That's why it looks like a "melted" '55. What I'm most disappointed in is the performance. For nearly $40k MSRP (not counting dealer mark-up...) I expect something that will outperform any other 'bird produced, to include the SC. It just doesn't do it. And the price tag further shows the demographic the car was designed for: the nearly retired with too much money to spend. That car was priced so Ford could make a substantial profit with very low production numbers. The problem is that the T-bird has always been an economical car...They could have up'ed the performance, reduced the price and sold enough to make more profit than they are now. And they wonder why the sales were not what they expected them to be. If I spend Corvette money for a car that was originally Ford's answer to the Corvette, I expect the car to again compete with it...Not fall behind our beloved SC's in performance...

The new bird looks like it came from a cross of a Chrysler Sebring and a Lincoln Town car to me.

So why don't we write some letters to that chic and Ford and get them to make a two door LS that will once again chase down a vett ?
Like I said before ,it can be built cheap and a supercharged V-8 too.

Yeah, the new one sucks, and um, the 89-90 SC could not beat an 89-90 Vette......... They ran the quarter in the low 14s......

Supposedly the 89-93 SC could beat the 84 Vette. I raced an 84 recently w/ my 90 SC auto. The vette was an auto. He took me off the line and I held about a 1/2 car behind his bumper all the way up to about 95 mph when we shut down. He was stock except for ZR-1 rims.
Now if I had some 3.73's, a lentech valve body (or able to run 2nd to redline, mine shifted at 4k), a ZR intake, 10% pulley, and a better exhaust, I might have had my nose out front. Or if I had a 75 shot of nitrous he would have lost. Hell why not combine those mods w/ the nitrous and I'd have had him by about 2-3 cars probably if not more. The SC would have done better if it wasn't so heavy because he took me off the line. I slowly was inching up on him. I don't know who would have won if we went for top speed.

In 89-90 the Supercoupe had a top speed of 142mph man.,140mph auto ,then the fun stopped cause it was faster than the SHO and 5.0 .
On the other hand they did make the Supercoupe to take on the M6 but it got canned.
DAMM I wish there was a new Ford I could buy besides the Crown Vic..

The newer Birds are over priced, under powered tinker toys. If they want to be competive, they need to make a real car. I really pissed one of the locals off with one, by telling him I knew how he could drop off at least 3 seconds off his 1/4 mile time. He asked me how, and I told him to hook a rope to the back of mine. He tried to smoke the tires leaving, and could only kick up a little dust.
It is a cute car, but little KIA looks as good, and would give it a good run for about $20,000 less. At least Ford has not screwed up the Mustang. Hell, Chrysler was on a roll with there 300, Magnum, then BLEW it on there new Dodge Charger. What a ugly thing. Ill stay with the MN12 series till Ford wakes up. Seems all they can do is build Ugly 4 doors, or re skinned toy cars.

I raced my buddies 1985 Vette in my 90 Super Coupe. That was probably 1994. It was very close but he walked away from me. EVER so slowly....... :) He was very pissed that the cars were so close in acceleration.

Ah, i could easily believe and 84 Vette, they had the not too great Crossfire 350, had like a whopping 200HP. 85s are a bit quicker with the L98.

When I worked in Kansas city at Ford ,I had to pick up a Supercoupe from the yard out side town .The guy I was working with had to get a Ford Probe GT . So we get there ,get the cars ,I fill the tank ,and he bails on me . It's a long drive to the yard , so I gun it to catch him . the pick up was slow but steady. After passing a few trucks I catch the Probe and pass him ....fast . And sence he liked imports and front drives so much ,I kept going. And that is why I love the Supercoupe somuch to this day.
When he finaly showed up ,he came to me and said he has doing 125 mph when he saw me coming up ,and he up shifted, he said the speedo was 135 mph when I blew by him. Later on he he did buy a T-Bird LX. And by the way Car & Driver an Road & Track did do 138-142 mph runs.
