Just checking to see if there would be any interest in this at all. Of course this is a unfinished pic, i hope to have it all done this weekend. Let me know what you guys think a fair price would be, i can make them for 8" ,10" , and 12" subs. They take hardly any room at all as they fit right into the rear fenderwall.
What do you think that a fair price would be for one side and then for the pair? And how many people would be interested in getting either one or the pair?

But what would you pay for them? im trying to keep it very resonable, being that these are for tbirds and thats prolly all that they will fit. SO i dont want to come off the with some high price that makes them completly useless.
I should be able to have them done this weekend.

well for the price you have to figure if you want to make money off of them or just make enough back to pay for the materials and shipping. if you just want to do this as a service for the tbird community then just charge for the materials and consider yourself a saint. if you want to make something for your time, effort and engineering then figure that in as well. hope this helps. by the way looks very nice.

ok well i was wondering.. when you say they are done is the fibergalss it self done, or do u smooth it out and put a layer of filler over it so it can be painted to match? i think that would be a big facter in the price... id take 2 un finished like that... just so i could do my own paint...

Oh, and you might want to let us know of the mounting depth and the volume of the inside, cause that all factors in with the subs you can use.

I will begin production next weekend.maybe this should be moved to the group buy? although theres no certian number to be ordered to start production. Im not very happy with the finish, but thats due to doing the glass from the outside, and also from the body filler, but this is jsut the mold, and the rest will be glassed from the inside, therefore will look tons better.Ill get the mount depths today also.
Anyone mind if i stop posting it here and start a thread in the for sale forum?

Soooooooooo...How does it sound..:O)..And ya can carpet them with felt or something to make em look better
T@Sound-Xtreme
01-11-2005, 12:54 PM
yes i can put some carpet on there, or felt, either one. Havnt really hooked it up yet, i went from finishing that to starting to finish the led lit needles, and also finishing the '56 tractor hood i am remaking for my neighbor, ill see if i cant throw it in today after work and see how it sounds.
And i can make it look much better, it just needs to be glassed from the inside, and i need to use body filler a littel better, found out some tips on that, lol. But i can pretty much do anythign to them, this weekend im going to ttry and make them go up over the wheel well hump, to try and get some more airspace, since everyone wants that.

Agreed, if you could cut out carpet patterns to screw in between the sub and the box, then blend it... or cut it out nicely so as to look like there is no hole there at all. Its a shame that the volume will only be around 5.Cubicft. cause my sub doesnt like the 1.5 cubic feet its in now...

Im going to re-work it this weekend and see how much i can sqeeze out of it, but you also have to remember that it is a small area i am working in, and it s better than the stock jbl setup. But agian i am going to redo them this weekend, i may even see about doing them right behind the seat to the wheelwell, i dunno yet.

If you want to get one of these cars loud you need to build a box that fires through the drop down seat. And can be sealed off from the trunk.
But I bet it will hit really low. Stuff the box with alot of pillow stuff to lower the note. They like mid forties coming from the trunk.
One thing I wanted to do was to build a fibreglass the wheel well for a ported enclosure and then putting the tire over it for long trips.
Anyways try sanding and buffing the box and use some Rage body filler to help smooth it out
Also I can help hook you up with car audio equipment
I have I really nice subwoofer brand that would fit that box volume.

I also own a shop, I am authorized dealer for Audiobahn in a section of NW Ohio, and a few other brands American Bass, Fusion, Power Acoustic, and a few lesser known brands, like DHD,and Digital Acoustic.
I also used some body filler on the box, but it jsut didnt come out right, so this weekend i will be re-working it. ANd making sure that it is perfect!
And illl have to psot up some pics of a great box that a made last year for these cars.

Hmm... very nice, once I see the finished product, I'll most likely buy some to add more subs to my trunk, lol.
Keep up the good work.
Hey guys I am old, just turned 58. I dont know why you would put a speaker in the trunk? Can someone explain the advantage? Right now I am working on the drive train stuff. Next a pro street style interior. But down the line I want a really good sound system. Thanks Tim

T@Sound-Xtreme

Hey tim i will try my best to help you understand. Sound waves travel through your car so that you can hear the bass in the cabin area, which makes the music more dynamic. there are many members of the boards running a sub or multiple sub application in thier trunk. You can also visti www.caraudiohelp.com if youd like to learn more about car audio.
Cubic feet is a measure of how much volume or air space is in the box, speaker manufactors but a recomended amount or range of cubic feet that there subwoofer will perform the best in, and what type of enclosure is recomended.
From Car Audio Help:
Subwoofers are larger drivers that are used to create the frequencies around and below 100Hz. Ordinary loudspeakers are unable to effectively produce frequencies in this range due to size limitations of the driver. Subwoofers are generally considered speakers of 8" or larger and will require more amplifier power than coaxial or component loudspeakers due to their larger size. Subwoofers will also require an enclosure to produce these lower frequencies effectively. Sometimes the enclosure can be as simple as the trunk of a sedan or as complex as a series-tuned dual-reflex band pass enclosure. The cone size and enclosure required will be two very important factors when deciding on a subwoofer for your system.

I'm in Garner, N.C.
Thank a lot now I think I get it. Would probably sound good even with the old style rock I like. My brother called me today and is goin to give me a sony C.D. unit that he had mounted in his trunk. It has a control that mounts in front. Now I can listen to my style music. The big base sounds like a good idea.

The smaller one would suit my needs with alittle stuffing in it. But then again it would be easier to convince my wife to let me get bigger subs to use the full potential of the new boxes. :D

Heres the bracket, it requires drilling into the box and into the support for the trunk, or however you want to do it. I will include these in every order, but I will not drill the holes, because I do not see the need for them. The box fits very snug as is, and requires some oomph to get it in place, but I will include them in with the box :D

Tyler; looks like some excellent work you've done here! I have considered speakers in this location before, but without fiberglassing experience I simply haven't bothered.
The finished pictures look incredibly nice, and the positioning/location of the subwoofers with your boxes is one of the best positions for eliminating cancellation in the trunk!
Just to clarify, you say current design of these boxes have 1.6 ft^3 each? Thats an incredible amount of room for that location, even makes porting an option!
Keep up the good work!!

I tried to even them out, if you remember how the others were kinda pointed different, it came out pretty good i think what ya think??
I learned a few things today also, i will now only be shipping UPS from now on, the fedex place i went to was not run by fedex workers, it was a franchise, and they wanted almost dbl the quote i got online. So if i gave you a quote, let me give you another, because all my quotes were with fedex. After i get this new primer sanded down ill post some pics of them primed, I will now charge more for them to be primed because of all the extra work, TONS OF SANDING!!!!!!! I will be accepting payment now for orders #3 and #4(SO CONTACT ME) if there are any problems please contact me ASAP. I spoke with #3 today and #4 will be completed after i get back from leave, i will be gone from thursday till tuesday.

why does the box taper in by the rear taillight. why not just follow it all the way to the corner of the trunk and around? Maybe its an optical illusion from the pics. Is it the saem price for custom orders. Ive got 2 JL audio 12w6's. i dont have my notes with me they must be hiding. How thick is the mold?
looks great. mike

I think your refering to where that black plastic trunk piece is by the rear taillights, that piece is curvered and bulges, and that is the reason for the taper, am i following your question? What do you mean custom orders? You think that your subs wont fit? The mold is pretty thick, let me get some pics up when i get home.

As for the price increase for Primered Boxes, I will now be charging $250 For Primered Boxes due to all the time that is involved with them.
My wife wanted me to raise my price for just normal boxes, but i cant justifie it to the community, so consider this the discount for the communities, as i someday when i can get cought up will be making some and selling them on ebay for $250 starting bid, carpeted. :D
And on a personal note, which i will be putting in the good buyer forum Brian Oatway is the most patience person i know, from his box being the first order and me still working on the damn things, its unbelievable that he still has patience with me :o But yet he does, and i thank him for that. So i would recommend him to anyone and defend him as a good buyer!!!!

Brian I believe you were after dan correct? Let me know for sure! I musta overlooked your pm when i was making this list, sorry ;)
ITHURTZ I knew it was a matter of time before price went up!
Yes it is ready for painting, all surfaces that can be seen, because does tha back really matter :) And i just cant spend all the hours of bondo and sanding then "iceing" and sanding and then primer and sanding. But remember the price for carpeted ones are still the same. And i think you pm'd me about your boxes awhile ago come to think of it, and i think i told you that i was raising them and that i would still honor my $140 price for you, but i never heard back from you, or maybe it was someone else, I'll have to look.

If you live in CA you can expect to pay $70 at least for shipping, i had no idea that shipping was so much there, but now i do as well as everyone else. I found that out today when i went to UPS to ship some boxes that i worked my butt off finishing for a guy for a car show tomorrow, and was going to bite the cost of overnight shipping. That was untill she told me how much it was $163.78 for ONE BOX to be shipped overnight, not the pair, but one box sor for 2 it would of been over $300 to ship them, i just dont have that kind of money. It was $71.48 to ship ground to CA, so i really made no money on this pair of boxes, you live and you learn.
http://members.cox.net/smitty1258/Resized_ca%20price.jpg
Secondly, i deserve to be listed in the BAD SELLERS forum
#1 I still have one of Brain Oatway's speakers boxes sitting in my garage waiting for final primer and sanding
#2 Dan Tunnell wanted these subs for a car show, that is tomorrow, UPS GROUND wont have them there untill next friday, and there was no way i could pay $300 for overnight shipping, i just dont have that kinda money, and now he doesnt have the boxes for the car show, he and i both were really excited to "show them off"
So i would just like to apoligize to everyone, and let you all know that i am doing the best that i can. With running the legal shop at work, and family things/events, and making boxes.
I am sorry.
Starting tomorrow morning I will be taking a much needed trip back home to OH, i will not be returning untill wednesday, i will be working on boxes come that following weekend, and shipping during the week, So to everyone inbetween orders #1-#6 who havnt received there boxes, which i think is 2 1/2 ppl, you will be receiveing tracking numbers within 2 weeks.
This is what ill be coming home to,

Tyler,
I have admired the boxes you have done ever since you started. I just am a poor college student so I can't even afford your low priced boxes:( . But I just wanted to say that I think you don't need to be hat'in on yourself (the page before.) I'm surprised that your turn around time is this quick with your job and family. I can understand how busy it can tend to be. I have all this homework and with athletics I have no time for fun because I am so exhausted that I lounge around on my free time.
I was wondering if you wouldn't mind sharing some of your expertise with me. Right now my setup is 2 12's that fire directly at the trunk lid at a 45 degree angle. I do want to buy your boxes but the subs that I have require more space than what you got speced for your boxes, which really sucks. Do you think something like your design is a acheiveable using more space for the sub while using wood? With a setup like that do you think a ported or sealed box be better?
One last thing, you mentioned that you have your own audio shop! Do you have a website or a list or products that you carry? I been wanting to get some updated combos (subs and amps?!) Bud, your work is AMAZING:D . Anyone who is impatient and can't wait for your boxes can go get something that is basic and that everyone else has!! I give you mad props!! But any help that you can give me would be much appreciated! Thank you for all your time and hope to hear from ya soon!!
Sincerely,
Brandon

Take a look at the date.
I wish I could get a set, but I don't think that is going to happen any time soon.
Unless you want to pay $275 on ebay, plus an outrageous amount for shipping.
I even bought a fold down for my 96 so I could still put larger stuff in the trunk after the subs were relocated.

If I remember correctly his AIM is his ebay name.
I asked him "what happpened" through ebay a couple weeks ago and did not get a response.
Go to ebay and do a search for thunderbird fiberglass and click on the link to search ebay stores. He wants twice the price listed here.
While your at it give the shipping calc. a shot for me, Mine came up around $117.
I want these boxes bad, If I had the cash I might be willing to spend more on them but the shipping is an insult. You can get a sealed dual 12" box shipped from a handful of people for around $30 and these should not weight nearly as much.
