I was looking at the rear view mirror of a 90 xr7 with a sunroof and realized that they have the lights under them. I think thats a pretty cool upgrade...if possible. Has anybody done this? I take it since they're only lights, you could just tap into the lighting circuit to get them to work. Also, does the mirror accept the auto-dimming light sensor?

***Now that i remember, they're just like the ones used on convertible stangs...well, at least on fox body stangs.

I have an '89 sunroof XR-7, which means that I had the courtesy light rearview mirror you're talking about. I also notice that you have the auto-dim headlight sensor. I swapped in the auto dim rear view view mirror (there by loosing my courtesy lights). The plug for the courtesy lights, & the auto dim mirror are the SAME. So, if you don't mind loosing your auto dim rear view mirror, swapping mirrors is plug-N-play. Sunroof cars were an automatic delete for the auto dim rear view mirror, because the courtesy lights & the auto mirror used that same wireing harness plug.

Oh, well thats good to know...kf the connectors are the same, then perhaps if you grab the harness from the car with those rearview/lighted mirrors you can splice it up and have both working. I think im giving that a try :D . I swear....im running out of low-budget things to do to the bird.

...nah, im an idiot. It wont work

I used to have a 1989 3.8 N/A with a factory installed moon roof and the optional "lighting package". It had the auto dim rear view mirror with the auto-dim headlight sensor and without courtesy lights under the mirror.

I just stripped out an '89 SC and when I pulled down the headliner, both plugs were there, one is tied to the other wire, but back a little farther, maybe gently pulling on the one that is showing will pull the other out far enough for it to show up. Pulling the front of the headliner down COULD be a real p.i.a. good luck, W.L.

I might try to get that mirror from the junk yard and see if i can somehow adapt the electronics of the auto dim mirror onto it....or vice versa. I love my auto headlamp function, and i think these lights are kinda cool too.

If I were you I would use the auto dim mirror from a later model (91+ ??) as it is electrochromic unlike the early ones which mechanically move the mirror.

i have a '93 sc and it has the same...never even heard of the courtesy lights on the rear view.

While we're on the subject of lights, is there anything to do that will make the interior lights brighter? It could be just my car, but it's incredibly dim inside, and none of the bulbs are burnt out. I miss having a dome light, but I don't want to put on in on this car either.

Well, i got that rear view mirror for $3 at my junk yard...imma see what can be done. In my 94 i have the sunroof switch and the dome llights in the same panel right above the rear view mirror. These cars that came with the mirror/lights only have one small swich for the sunroof.
