Do I need to remove intake elbow to remove SC?

Is it necessary to remove the intake elbow to get to the bolts for the intake plenum and SC? I'm trying to pull the SC off to send to MP and I am also replacing the intake plenum and don't want to remove more than necessary especially if it means replacing a gasket or having to safegaurd a pressure leak point (intake elbow). I've also noticed that the repair manual sometimes has us removing more than is necessary at times when looking to remove a particular item.
Thanks..

1.I would just unhook the blower IC tube.
2.Mark the vacunm lines on the blower plenum.
3.Take the three bolts out of the throttle body and TV cable mount.
4.Take the blower belt off.
5.remove cold air pipe.
6.Then take the thre bolts out of the blower.

It is easier to remove and install blower with its related parts.
Blower,throttle body,plenum,ect.

When you say cold air pipe do you mean the intake elbow or the piece of hose with the two pipe clamps on it? OR is it the pipe that comes from the bottom of the IC to the intake elbow? If yes, then I have to remove the intake elbow too, right? I envision removing the TB, intake plenum, SC, and intake elbow as one honking piece. Is that right?

The 1 1/4 inch rubber hose with two clamps,I call this the cross talk tube.
You just need to loosen the clamp closest to the blower.

The cold air tube is between the air filter,MAF and the throttle body.

I remove mine as a unit. This includes MAF ,COLD AIR TUBE,THROTTLE BODY,
PLENUM,BLOWER,BLOWER HAT,I t is heavy so you may need some help.

Its not a hard job.Just mark every vacunm line where they go.
Take all the parts off the blower, after you have removed blower
from engine.Put all the bolts back into there place,so you don't
loose or forget were they go.It may take up to two months
before you are able to put back together.

Just be sure you lable every thing with tape and marker. And know
were the bolts go.

Oh, I already removed the intake tube (cold air tube as you call it) from the MAF b/c I am putting in a 3.5" from SCP. So I don't mess with the intake elbow? If not that is great news...now I just hope I can reach the SC bolts with the intake elbow still on the car. P.S. I tend to overcomplicate things. :p

Paul just remove the blower belt first.
Then remove the three bolts holding the blower.

From there you will see what is needed.Your just like me and every
one else .You just have stage fright. You will see ,its not a hard
job once you get started.

Just be sure to lable the vac lines,or other parts you may foreget about.

Good luck .You will be very happy with your new power

What is the SC bolt size????

I'm so close to removing the SC that I can smell it! But I can't figure out the bolt head size for the smaller bolts. They have "9.8" stamped on them. Does that mean 9.8mm? I think it may b/c the 10mm socket is just a bit to big and the 9mm is too small. I can't believe Ford put on a 9.8mm bolt just to make us go insane. Also, I tried standard sockets and nothing fit. WHAT DO I DO? Gotta get this thing into the mail tomorrow.

The 9.8 represents the fastener strength. The hex size for the blower bolts is 10 mm. Use a good quality 6 point socket to remove them. They can be sticky and if you use a 12 point socket you will have a good chance of rounding the head. You can get the plenum to intake gasket from NAPA real cheap $4 or the dealer for $7-8 if you remove the entier assembly.
Good luck!

Thanks for the advice. So is there normally a gasket between the intake plenum and the SC? I didn't see one when removing it, just some glazing that looked like liquid gasket or anerobic gasket maker, something to that affect. Would be nice to know in advance all the gaskets/seals I'll need to have so I'm ready to go when I get my SC back from MP. I don't like surprises. :p
