Why a different bolt pattern?

Anybody have any insight or idea as to why Ford went with a 5x4 1/4 on mn12's and a 5x4 1/2 on everything else? Why didn't they use the same bolt patter on all their cars?

Just one more way to make everything a lot harder to find. I wish I could find some plates to convert the bolt pattern. I want to run a narrow mag and a skinny tire for drag racing.

Chuck Weiss, one of the retired Ford engineers who spoke to us at Carlisle last year, thought it may have been because the previous fresh design that Ford had done was the 86 Taurus / Sable, which also use positive offset 5 on 108 mm pattern hubs.

[COUGH] Hub conversion!! [/COUGH] :D :p

cheers,
Ed N.
