The most difficult part is finding parts if something inside is worn or broken. There are a few sort of specialized tools, but you can improvise. The trickiest part is pulling off a bearing that is pressed onto the output shaft, but a bearing spliter should take care of that.
If you would feel comfortable rebuilding an engine you should be OK doing the 5-speed. Just make sure you have a shop manual handy because there are some helpful hints, special procedures, and clearance specs you need to check. The diagrams will be handy too.

Rich at www.mn12performance.com has scanned and posted a link to the shop manual for rebuilding the 5 speed transmission.
Here is the thread where he posted the link.

I once wrote a 2 part article for Charging Thunder on rebuilding them. If you can get the issues it simplifies the proceedure. I use no special tools and can rebuild one in a day's time if I do it all at once and have all of the parts I need beforehand. They are not hard to do. At minimum you'll a set of synchro blockers and a new crush bearing that goes between the input and output shafts. You may need to take it apart before you know what else you'll need. Southern Gear, Smyrna, GA, and Astro Transmissions, Houston, TX, both carry all the parts. I don't have their telephone numbers handy where I'm at right now but have them at home.
