well my SC is dead for now, i did the HG's not too long later it spun a bearing and really really bad running. it wont even run for more than a few seconds right now.

Im considering a rebuild. any idea how much a rebuild on a SC engine will run me and what parts i might need? i am no mechanic by any means

What To Do ???????????????

you can get a used bolck from 100.00 bare or complete 600.00..as you will need a crank and a rod...you make the choice!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is a thread in the members area where I'm documenting some things as I rebuild my motor. I'm doing it to freshen up the motor. Sounds like you've got an issue.

A spun bearing on a crank may mean you need a new crank. SC cranks are forged and they don't take well to being ground down. A few people in the past have broken cranks after they've been ground. (I don't know that it was ever confirmed that the failure was 100% due to the grinding) Maybe someone can pipe up with the limits they would allow the SC crank to be ground to.
Here is a thread that is interesting. Note that Forged cranks are extremely sensitive to shock/impact damage. I.E. don't drop it or bang it against anything. This can create a stress point in the steel.

http://www.northernautoparts.com has a master engine kit for our motor (I don't think it's listed on their webpage, but you can call) for around $600.00. Any machine work you should have done will likely run $800 if not more. Add in labor to disassembly and re-assemble and you're likely looking at 2k or so.

i cant find a wrecked SC or even a engine anywhere in my area no junkyards none for sale. so that is the only reason im not doing a engine swap, cant find one lol

At least one of the sellers here, Bleed_Ford_blue, has multiple blocks and block cores available. He's in Oklahoma though, so you might want to contact someone like Randall Burnett in NY to see if he has anything you can use. Contact info is in the seller's forum. :)

If you want a direct replacement try this out:
http://www.used-auto-engines.com/cgi-bin/webc.cgi/rebuilt-engine.html?p_prodid=19091&sid=6DoJfi1ES5Pz3ln-00105449736.60

It would be a good idea to not send any core parts in, until you have received the long block and determined that the heads are for SC. If the heads are not SC heads, then I suggest keeping your original stuff and simply paying the core charge. Take the heads (original and new ones) to a shop and see what kind of deal you can get rebuilding your old ones. Maybe worth some porting work.

has anyone worked with them before, thats not a bad price at all if they have good service

I haven't personally done any business with them, but they have a link to customer testimonials, and at the bottom of the page, there is a BBB member logo. Do the BBB checkup and call S&S and talk to them. Here is the link for the customer testimonials: http://www.rebuilt-auto-engines.com/cgi-bin/webc.cgi/quotes.html?sid=1AlF2z1ES7OWC6U-39105441416.e2

When talking to them, use this information to ask them questions about the motor they are selling:
http://www.sccoa.com/articles/thunderbird_1989.pdf

Questions I would ask:
Q: What is the compression of the pistons? Answer: 8.2 to 1. (up to 8.7:1 is good).
Q: Is the crank forged or cast/duracast? Answer: Forged.
Q: Are the heads generic heads or are they specifically for a Super Coupe? Answer: Super Coupe Only.
Q: Is there an 'SC' stampped on the top edge of the heads? Answer: Yes.
Q: Is the cam for an automatic or a manual transmission? Answer: Both? Get part number of the cam and verify with cam's manufacturer.

If all checks out, go for it.
