Fixed my passive seatbelts, caused another problem?

Today I took apart my driver-side interior to attempt to fix my passive seatbelts. Got it all apart and found the only thing wrong to be that the belt couldn't move away from the b-pillar... looked in the track, there was a pin or something blocking it... took everything apart and there was a spring-loaded stopper on the back of the track. I assume that this is there to restrain the belt in case of a crash. The nylon part that rubs all the time had a groove in it and thus allowed the metal part to block the track from moving. I just took it off. Did I cause a problem in the future? Should I try to get a new one or something? Will this cause me to go through the windshield in the case of a crash? Opinions and thoughts requested.
